#2 – Community Thanksgiving – All Are Welcome

LUM is currently planning a holiday feast for more than 800 guests on Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 24) from Noon to 2 p.m. The 36th annual LUM Community Thanksgiving Feast is FREE and includes a traditional Thanksgiving meal with turkey, potatoes, stuffing, dressing, rolls, vegetables, and a variety of pies & desserts.

This year will be a community event with music, food and good company. To-go meals will also be available.

Monetary gifts are appreciated to help defray the $9,000 expense for the meal. Volunteers and donations of food & supplies are needed. To donate and/or volunteer, go to LUMserve.org/thanksgiving.

#3 – LUM Food Pantries on Both Sides of the River

LUM runs two Food Pantries — one in Downtown Lafayette and the other in West Lafayette. The LUM Food Pantries need your support this fall to continue to meet the growing demand for basic food, paper products and personal hygiene items, especially as the holidays approach and utility bills increase.

Times are tough. Client needs are greater. Food banks are impacted by the supply chain and unable to provide the food that is needed. The cost for LUM to purchase additional items has increased.

Monetary donations to the LUM Food Pantries are ideal because they allows LUM to use the money where it is needed the most. If you are looking for other ways to help —consider volunteering, donating needed items, and/or hosting a collection drive. Consider including a donation to LUM at your holiday event in lieu of a gift exchange. To learn more and get started, go to LUMserve.org/food-pantry.

Here are a few ways YOU can help LUM continue to meet the growing demand for basic food, paper products and personal hygiene items.

  • DONATIONS – Monetary donations are ideal because the money will be used where it is needed the most.
  • GIVING GARDENERS – If you wish to donate fresh vegetables, herbs and fruit from your garden, simply drop off your items when the LUM Food Pantries are open (Thursday & Friday mornings). Learn more.
  • NEEDED ITEMS – Families need paper products, cleaning supplies, infant products and personal hygiene items. Purchase the needed items and drop off or shop online and have items shipped. Plus, if you use Amazon Smile, LUM will get 0.5% of your eligible purchase. Go to smile.amazon.com, select “Lafayette Urban Ministry,” and order needed items. Learn more.
  • HOST A DRIVE – Coordinate a “drive” for the LUM Food Pantries at your church, organization or business — or at your next event, like a birthday party or business meeting/social. Check the LUM Wish List and keep it simple. For example, sponsor a Toilet Paper Drive for all programs, Socks Drive for the Emergency Shelter, or Snacks Drive for the After School Program. Learn more.
