LUM is “Tackling Basic FOOD Needs” Yearlong

The work of LUM includes providing food assistance, meals and nutrition programs that are “tackling basic FOOD needs and uplifting the people of Greater Lafayette.” Three LUM programs are spotlighted below.

Please read more below and consider getting engaged or investing in LUM food initiatives.

#1 – Hunger Hike – Raising Awareness & Funds

Hunger Hike 2022 had a big turnout and a big impact. For 30 yearsHunger Hike has brought much needed attention and raised more than $2.2 million to overcome malnutrition, food insecurity & hunger locally, regionally & globally. So far this year, more than $115,332 has been raised, surpassing the goal of $100,000. If you missed the event — no worries, you may still donate.

All Hunger Hike proceeds benefit and support the good work of three local agencies — Lafayette Urban MinistryFood Finders Food Bank, Inc. & St. Thomas Aquinas Haiti Ministry.

Thank you to all of our passionate participants & generous sponsors for another lively outdoor event. To make a donation, go to HungerHike.org.

This year will be a community event with music, food and good company. To-go meals will also be available.

#3 – LUM Food Pantries on Both Sides of the River

LUM runs two Food Pantries — one in Downtown Lafayette and the other in West Lafayette. The LUM Food Pantries need your support this fall to continue to meet the growing demand for basic food, paper products and personal hygiene items, especially as the holidays approach and utility bills increase.

Times are tough. Client needs are greater. Food banks are impacted by the supply chain and unable to provide the food that is needed. The cost for LUM to purchase additional items has increased.

Monetary donations to the LUM Food Pantries are ideal because they allows LUM to use the money where it is needed the most. If you are looking for other ways to help —consider volunteering, donating needed items, and/or hosting a collection drive. Consider including a donation to LUM at your holiday event in lieu of a gift exchange. To learn more and get started, go to LUMserve.org/food-pantry.

Here are a few ways YOU can help LUM continue to meet the growing demand for basic food, paper products and personal hygiene items.
