Jubilee Christmas – Truckloads of Toys Donated

Overwhelming Support from the Community

The support from the community for Jubilee Christmas each year is overwhelming. There are too many to adequately thank here; so, here are just a few. Thanks to our biggest donors…

  • Greyhouse Coffee & Supply Co.and Brokerage Brewing Co. for being Jubilee Christmas donation centers and donating lots of high quality, new toys.
  • The staff members in Dauch Alumni Center at Purdue including the Purdue Alumni Association & the President’s Council (pictured) for donating five truck loads of new toys, bikes, clothes, sport equipment and more.
  • The Parrot Heads Club of Lafayette for their donation of new toys.
  • Anonymous individual donated over $7,000 worth of new winter coats, hats & gloves for our Jubilee Christmas children.

VERY SPECIAL THANKS to all of our Host-Sites who hosted all of our families, and whose members donated an incredible number of toys, clothes, cookies, blankets, hams, food cards and more. Jubilee Christmas could not possibly happen without their support over the past 39 years. They are as follows: Bethany Presbyterian Church, Central Presbyterian Church, Chapel of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Campus Ministry, Christ United Methodist Church, Church of the Blessed Sacrament, Congress Street United Methodist Church, Elston Presbyterian Church, Faith Presbyterian Church, Federated Church, First Baptist Lafayette, First Christian Church, First United Methodist Church of West Lafayette, Grace United Methodist Church, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Immanuel United Church of Christ, Lafayette Christian Reformed Church, Lafayette Church of the Brethren, Lafayette Friends Meeting, Memorial Presbyterian Church of Dayton, Our Saviour Lutheran Church, Riverside Covenant Church, St. Andrew United Methodist Church, St. John’s Episcopal Church, St. Lawrence Catholic Church, St. Mary Cathedral, St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Center at Purdue, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Trinity United Methodist Church, and the Unitarian Universalist Church of Tippecanoe County

Jubilee Christmas, The Most Joyous Day of the Year

Jubilee Christmas Served 639 Local Families & 1,828 Local Children

The 39th annual Lafayette Urban Ministry Jubilee Christmas Program took place this past Saturday (December 14) at 26 different events throughout Lafayette/West Lafayette.  Thirty churches and numerous individuals, businesses and clubs provided gifts of new toys, books, food, and clothing, to parents from 639 local households impacting 1,828 local children.

Jubilee Christmas is designed to let mom and dad be the heroes, rather than providing gifts to children at a large party or having volunteers deliver toys directly to the home. Jubilee Christmas strengthens families by supporting the important role of parents at Christmas time.

On Jubilee Christmas Saturday, parents arrived at their designated Jubilee Christmas site.  Greeters welcomed and introduced them to their hosts for the day. Parents then began to select toys, clothing and stocking stuffers for their children. Volunteers helped the parents wrap gifts. Each family also received a food card, homemade Christmas cookies and a holiday ham.

A program of this size is a real benefit to our local retail economy. All the gifts and food for Jubilee Christmas are purchased locally. LUM will also see as a result of this program fewer requests for emergency rent and utility assistance in January and February.

More than $250,000 worth of toys and food were distributed; and it took over 1,200 individual volunteers to make it a success this year.

Jubilee Christmas relies on donations from churches, organizations and individuals for a successful Jubilee Christmas. You can help by donating a cash gift of $50, $100, $250, $500, $1,000 or more to Jubilee Christmas.

Meet Jackie – Superstar LUM Volunteer

Jackie Graser – Dedicated LUM Volunteer

Jacqueline “Jackie” Graser grew up in Logansport, graduated from Logansport High School, and earned a BS in Nursing from Purdue University, where she met her husband, Bernie, who was a star Boilermaker wrestler.

Jackie and Bernie live in West Lafayette, attend Grace Lutheran Church and have two grown children & four grandchildren. She retired from Franciscan Alliance as an RN-BSN in Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehabilitation. Jackie is still called on as a PRN from time to time.

At LUM, Jackie has been volunteering with Jubilee Christmas for many years — and is one of the founding volunteers with the LUM Protein Food Pantry, which opened in April. Jackie shared,
“I love what LUM does for the community. I appreciate how LUM sees what families need and addresses those needs. I have a heart for children and families who are food insecure.”
Jackie thinks the new food pantry is“perfect” because it provides exactly what families need — protein, produce & paper goods.“My favorite program, though, is Jubilee Christmas.”

Jackie takes inspiration from Jeremiah 29,
“’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’”
By volunteering at the LUM Protein Food Pantry and with Jubilee Christmas, Jackie feels like,
“We are being Christ to the children and families we serve.”

In her free time, Jackie loves being with her family, golfing, biking, and kayaking.
