LUM’s Impact – So Far This Year – 2019
Each year, when we return from a successful Hunger Hike event, we realize that it’s October and time to focus on our fall & winter programs. The LUM staff members are already focused on Jubilee Christmas, Port of Hope, the Community Thanksgiving Celebration and the Turkey Trot 5K Run!
It is also a time to reflect on the positive impact that LUM has had on the families, children and individuals in our community. So far this year, 3,160 different low-income households have been served by Lafayette Urban Ministry. LUM has nurtured and educated children, sheltered families, fed the hungry, helped the homeless become self-sufficient, supported the legal immigrant — by giving HOPE & HELP to the often faceless and voiceless.
Here is a better snapshot of LUM’s impact to date:
- 1,465 – Good Samaritan Program visits for housing, utility and health-care requests
- $80,360- Good Samaritan Fund assistance disbursed
- $2,633 Visits to the LUM Food Pantry
- 112 Immigration Clinic cases
- 174 ID Clinic cases
- 7,977 Overnight stays at the Emergency Shelter
- 580 Overnight stays at the Winter Warming Station
- 589 – Homeless individuals served
- 26 Homeless individuals provided housing through the LUM New Opportunity Fund
- 399 Households provided free Tax Assistance
- 213 Children served: LUM Camp (82), After School Program (86), and 5th Quarter Summer Learning Program (45)
- Jubilee Christmas: {TBD} Families and {TBD} children served (In 2018: 640 families & 1,831 children were served)
- Community Thanksgiving Celebration: {TBD} meals served (In 2018: 900 meals were served)
All of this is due to the faithful work carried on every day and night by Lafayette Urban Ministry.
Thanks to your friendship and generous support, LUM continues to make our community a better place for all of its citizens. Please remember LUM through the remainder of 2019 by participating in one of our upcoming events, volunteering, or by giving a financial gift! God bless you for all you do that allows LUM to make a difference with the families in our community.
