Turkey Trot 5K – Social Contract

Turkey Trot 5K Run

As a participant in the Turkey Trot 5K Run on Thursday, November 26, 2020, I verify that I have read, understand, and accept the terms of this Social Contract. In registering for the Turkey Trot 5K Run, I agree to adhere to all of the following conditions in order to protect myself, my fellow runners, and any staff or volunteers associated with the event; and my submission of the Turkey Trot 5K Run registration form shall act as my legal signature. I promise to:

  • Wear a mask when arriving on site and keep it on until I cross the
    starting line. Put my mask back on after crossing the finish line.
  • Maintain a social distance of at least 6ft from anyone not in my
    family group at the starting line and finish line and while anywhere
    in the staging area.
  • Social distancing X’s will be taped on the ground in front of
    the start line. All runners must use them.
  • Pick up my race packet, bib, and t-shirt IN ADVANCE.
    There will be NO on-site packet pick-up.
  • Not attend the race if I am exhibiting any COVID-like or other
    illness type symptoms, including but not limited to: fever, cough,
    loss of taste or smell, sneezing, sore/scratchy throat.
  • Not arrive at the staging area more than 15 minutes prior to
    my scheduled start time.
  • Leave as soon as I am able after finishing the race. Please
    do not cross through the staging area, or interfere with runners just
    starting their race.

I have read the above Social Contract, and by submitting the Turkey Trot 5K Run registration form I understand and agree with all of the terms of the contract.

Turkey Trot 5K Run 2019 Raises Close to $21,000


The annual Turkey Trot 5K Run was festive as well as a big success. Turkey Trot attracted a fun bunch willing to arrive before sunrise and run or walk a 5K on a brisk Thanksgiving morning.

Many arrived in costume or wearing a turkey hat, and participated with their entire family including their dogs. Turkey Trot participants shared that they enjoy being able to add more meaning to their holiday by supporting local children & families through the programs of Lafayette Urban Ministry. Special thanks to our first annual Costume Contest celebrity judges, Indiana State Representative Sheila Klinker and Joe Micon, LUM executive director. The event was also a successful fundraiser for all of the LUM programs & services offered to local families and children. It is still early but Turkey Trot 2019 is on track to raise more than $21,000. Thanks to all of our participants and Event Sponsors. It’s a great way to help those in our community in need while celebrating a holiday of “thanksgiving.”

Runners, walkers, families, strollers & dogs are welcome. All proceeds benefit Lafayette Urban Ministry.

Volunteers are needed on Thanksgiving morning (Thursday, Nov. 22) from 6-9:30 a.m. at Walmart/Christina’s, West Lafayette, including…

  • Wednesday, Nov. 21 –
    Advanced Check In, noon – 6 p.m.
  • Thursday, Nov. 22 –
    Check In, 6-8:15 a.m.
    Food/Water distribution, 6:15-9 a.m.
    Course Guides, 7:15-9 a.m.

The annual Turkey Trot 5K Run was exciting as well as successful. Turkey Trot once again attracted fun people willing to arrive before sunrise and run or walk a 5K on a brisk Thanksgiving morning.

A lot of our participants were in costume or wearing a turkey hat, and many arrived with their entire family including their dogs. Turkey Trot participants shared that they love to turn a day of eating into a day of fitness too.
