Warming the Hearts of the UnHoused

An important winter initiative is the Winter Warming Station. When plummeting temperatures and harsh weather threaten the safety of our unhoused neighbors, LUM opens its doors to provide an additional sanctuary.

The Winter Warming Station complements the Emergency Shelter, offering a warm, secure haven where individuals can find respite from the bitter cold, each night from November 15 to April 15. The Winter Warming Station will open at 9 p.m., three hours earlier than in the past, and close at 7 a.m. LUM will also be making sure that all of the beds in the Emergency Shelter are filled ensuring that fewer individuals will need the Winter Warming Station. To engage in these LUM winter initiatives, click the links below.

Preparing for Winter’s Chilly Embrace

As fall & winter blanket our community in their chilly embrace, our longstanding commitment to aiding those in need shines ever brighter. At Lafayette Urban Ministry, we recognize that the winter season poses unique challenges for our most vulnerable neighbors. It’s a time when the cold bites deeper, making the warmth of compassion an indispensable lifeline. While LUM tirelessly serves clients throughout the year, winter’s arrival brings distinct hardships that demand special care and attention. Our mission stands resolute—to provide solace, support, and a sense of belonging.

Our winter mission is made possible through the kindness and support of our community. Whether you choose to volunteer your time, donate essential items, or contribute financially to LUM programs, your involvement can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve. Together, we can ignite warmth even on the coldest of winter nights, kindling the flames of compassion and hope. As we embark on this winter mission, let us remember that by serving those in need, we illuminate the path toward a brighter, more compassionate world for all.
