LUM Programs Statistics – Impact So Far in 2019

During the first half of 2019, Lafayette Urban Ministry services & programs have touched the lives of more than 2,480 households through one or another of our 16 programs. Families were strengthened, and children were educated —Giving Help, Giving Hope. Some LUM program details are as follows:

• Emergency Shelter for the homeless—365 individuals were provided overnight accommodations 5,041 times. The average guest utilized the LUM shelter 14 nights during that time frame.
• Good Samaritan Fund—$45,087 in direct cash assistance was provided to 837 households.
• ID Clinic—103 individuals were served.
• Immigration Clinic—53 individuals were served.
• New Opportunity Fund—17 individuals received grants to move into their own homes.
• Protein Food Pantry—286 households were served.
• Tax Assistance Program (free income tax preparation for low-wage workers)—407 tax returns filed from mid-January through mid-April. Tax refunds and credits totaling $633,267 were returned to those households — an average refund of $1,556 per household. The average annual adjusted gross income for those served by the program was $20,750.
• Winter Warming Station—164 individuals used the Winter Warming Station for a total of 580 visits.

• 5th Quarter Summer Learning Program — 45 children are currently enrolled.
• After School Program—74 Kindergarten through 8th grade students participated in the program during the 2018 – 2019 school year, which ended on May 24. Homework assistance, tutoring, reading and academic enrichment programs helped our students to do better in school.
• LUM Camp—90 children, 40 counselors and 25 program leaders will be in attendance at this overnight summer camp for children (8 to 10 years old) from July 29 through August 2.
