Cheryl Fowler — Community Thanksgiving Celebration, program director
Cheryl is originally from Cincinnati where she met her husband Gary. They moved to Indianapolis in the mid-1980’s. Cheryl has lived in West Lafayette with Gary for 16 years and is a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Tippecanoe County. Cheryl graduated from Miami University (Oxford, OH) with a BS in Business/Marketing.
Cheryl and Gary have one daughter, Claire, and son-in-law, Stephen who live in St. Louis. She has served as a LUM board member since 2013, and has been on the Hunger Hike Fundraising Committee since 2014. Cheryl is the local coordinator for International Experience, a non-profit, high school student international exchange program. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family & friends—and loves tap dancing. This is Cheryl’s second year as program director for the LUM Community Thanksgiving Celebration. She shared, “I am grateful to be a part of this event which provides a place for all to come together on Thanksgiving day for food and fellowship.”
Ben Murphy — Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk, program director
Ben is originally from Lawrenceburg, Kentucky and now lives in West Lafayette with his wife, Alison. He earned a BS in Computer Graphics Technology and Operations & Supply Chain Management, both from Purdue University (West Lafayette). Ben loves running outdoors, hanging out with his wife, exploring nature and reading.
He and his wife are active in the community and within their church, St. Ann’s Church (Lafayette). He also has volunteered with the LUM After School Program. Ben shared that “knowing that the Turkey Trot will raise money for LUM to help children and families right here in our community” gives him pride. “Giving starts at home with our neighbors and local community, which can be powerful to help motivate individuals to change their position in life—and is what drives us to do great work in life.”
