Four Reasons to Give
Looking for a reason to support the LUM Immigration Clinic? Here are four.
- The US Immigration system is daunting and complex. Legal help for many issues can run into the thousands of dollars. LUM provides assistance free of charge, helping our immigrant neighbors in life-changing ways.
- LUM only assists people who are living here legally.
- The LUM Immigration Clinic has helped hundreds of local people gain citizenship, obtain green cards, and get asylum and temporary protected status. They’ve helped people from all over the world to become Hoosiers.
- Our trained volunteers help stretch every dollar into many more hours of certified legal assistance.
Gala of Hope is happening in June – National Immigrant Heritage Month.

Traveler’s Dream – 7 p.m.
Raised in the heart of the Midwest, Michael Lewis and Denise Wilson feel a deep attachment to the landscape, music, and history of the place they call home. They have shared their music with audiences at music festivals, concert series, arts and cultural celebrations, French and Celtic events, state and national historical celebrations, schools and colleges. Traveler’s Dream has released four CD’s which have received positive reviews in SingOut! Magazine, FolkRoots, and other national publications. Recently the Indiana Arts Commission chose Wilson and Lewis as two of only 31 artists in Indiana to receive Individual Artist Fellowships. Lewis’ funded project was a CD of all-original music (The Natural World), and Wilson’s project involved the research and creation of a musical program which demonstrates the importance of music in America’s struggles for justice.
Jia Li Mason with Youth Ballet & Chinese Dance – 8 p.m.
Jia Li Mason grew up in China during the waning days of the cultural revolution, and studied the Pipa, or 4-stringed Chinese lute, at the Beijing College of Opera (one of 64 accepted students out of 6,000 applicants the year she applied).
After graduation, she became the chief Pipa player for one of the three performing troupes at the Beijing Opera Theater, where she played for many years before moving to the US in 1989.
Jia now works as a hair stylist and is the owner of River Hair Care in West Lafayette.
The Greater Lafayette Youth Ballet and Chinese Dance Club will perform a series of traditional dances designed to provide the audience with a window into some of the wonders of Chinese culture and history.
Crick’s Up featuring Larry Guentert – 9 p.m.
Crick’s Up jazz combo brings together Hunt Wiley on bass, Burt Echison on sax, Chamis Dougherty on keys, and Larry Guentert on drums. Their repertoire ranges from standard American jazz to funk, fusion, and jazzy pop. Recent gigs have included the Lafayette Jazz and Blues Festival, Spot Tavern, Hooker Winery, and the Williamsport Library
