LUM Celebrates Accessibility Improvements
Opening Doors to a Lifeline of Help & Hope
Lafayette Urban Ministry recently celebrated the installation of a new accessible entrance at its office with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The project was made possible through a generous anonymous donation facilitated by the Community Foundation of Greater Lafayette.
Cutting the ribbon are (L to R): Bob Shockey, LUM board president; Gabe Montgomery, board member; Tricia Sembroski, board member; Wes Tillett, LUM executive director; Rick Olson, LUM supporter; Susan Edgell, board secretary; and Joel Hartman, board vice president.
The new automatic door improves access for individuals with disabilities, older adults, parents with strollers, and others with mobility challenges seeking LUM services.
Also featured at the event was a new portable stair system for bunk beds in the LUM Emergency Shelter (pictured right). The stairs provide a safer way for guests with limited mobility to access upper bunks.
“This is a big day for LUM,” said Wes.
“These improvements are a significant step forward in our hospitality and accessibility, which are key aspects of our Strategic Plan.
They help ensure that everyone can access our services and shelter safely, comfortably, and with dignity.”
