Celebrate National Volunteer Month – Rescue Food
Food Rescuers Needed – Gather Food For LUM
LUM needs volunteers to “rescue” food from local restaurants, bakeries & grocery stores. LUM currently is partnering with Great Harvest Bread Co., Panera Bread & Starbucks to accept regular donations of their surplus food items. These items have been amazing additions to the LUM shelter, youth programs, and food pantries.
Volunteers are needed a few days & evenings a week. SIGN UP for a weekly pick up or just one. Pick up times vary from mornings, to evenings and weekends. LUM is also searching for a volunteer to coordinate this program.
Please help us save, gather and share food with our neighbors in need. It’s a win-win-win – RESCUE food, SHARE food & REDUCE food waste.
Two More Ways to Celebrate National Volunteer Month
#1 – Bulk Mail Volunteers Needed – Monthly, Daytime
Once (or twice) a month a group of friendly and dedicated volunteers come together to prepare LUM bulk mailings. These mailings include the LUM Seed newsletter, as well as solicitations and event mailings. The task usually involves applying labels, inserting return envelopes, and sometimes sealing envelopes and applying stamps. The job gets done while engaging in friendly conversation and friendship-making. NEXT DATE – Thursday, April 27 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, click the button below or email or call Terri Anderson, LUM office manager (tanderson@lumserve.org | 765.423.2691).
#2 – Shelter Volunteers Needed – Every Night of the Year
The LUM Emergency Shelter needs overnight volunteers 365 nights a year from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. or 8 p.m. to midnight. Very little training is needed, but volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Duties include checking in guests, serving dinner, distributing toiletries and creating a welcoming, safe & clean space.
By giving your time (and smile), you would be making a tremendous positive impact. Think about committing to volunteer once a month all year. Not only will you be helping LUM operate the shelter but you will also be giving joy, hope, and a smile to others who need it the most.
If you have any questions, please email Jeffrey Auguste, LUM shelter director, at jauguste@lumserve.org.
