LUM Westside Food Pantry Opening SOON


An Historic Milestone for Our Community


Lafayette Urban Ministry is thrilled to announce that the new LUM Westside Food Pantry has been approved by the state and will welcome clients as soon as next Friday. This new food program is a partnership between LUM and the Unitarian Universalist Church of Tippecanoe County with the support of the Chapel of the Good Shepherd. It complements the LUM Protein Food Pantry, located in downtown Lafayette, and is the only TEFAP food pantry in West Lafayette. The Protein Food Pantry is open on Thursday mornings, and the Westside Food Pantry will be open on Friday mornings.   1. Food Drive – Sponsor a food drive at your church, business or in your neighborhood. Extra Credit – Make it a MONTHLY food drive
  2. Donate – Make a monetary donation or Donate “needed items
  3. Volunteer – Sign up to volunteer at one of the LUM food pantries
  4. Promote – Tell your members and friends; Insert this article in your bulletins, emails, on social media and websites

This is an exciting time for LUM.
After months of gathering data, it is clear that West Lafayette needs a food pantry.

The LUM Westside Food Pantry will complement the LUM Protein Food Pantry, which is located in downtown Lafayette. The Protein Food Pantry is open every Thursday morning, and Westside Food Pantry will be open on Friday mornings.

LUM Food Pantry – Four Ways to Get Engaged

The LUM Protein Food Pantry needs you. Here are four ways to get engaged today. This new “pop up” food pantry is open weekly and focuses on providing “protein, paper goods & produce.”

Volunteers are needed each Thursday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and delivery of donated items will be received during that time.

To offer a good variety of proteins and paper products, the LUM Protein Food Pantry relies on donations from individuals, churches, companies and groups. The LUM food pantry also needs volunteers each Thursday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., to unload food, set up, check-in & assist families, and breakdown.

FOUR ways YOU can help the LUM Protein Food Pantry are as follows:

If you wish to sponsor a food drive or donate needed items, the list of items the food pantry needs is as follows:

  • Paper products: toilet paper, paper towels, napkins & facial tissues
  • Peanut butter; Eggs
  • Canned meats (beef, chicken) & canned fish (tuna)
  • Beans, legumes & lentils – dry or canned
  • Fresh produce: fruits & vegetables
  • Baby diapers & wipes; Infant formula
  • Feminine Hygiene Products: liners, napkins, pads, tampons, wipes
  • Adult incontinence protection aids (unisex briefs)

Grace Lutheran Church Donates Needed Items


Generous Gifts to LUM This Holiday Season


The members of Grace Lutheran Church collected and donated a truck-load of much “needed items” to Lafayette Urban Ministry. Some of the items will be used in the LUM Emergency Shelter and some will be distributed to the families served by the LUM Protein Food Pantry. LUM is very grateful to Grace Lutheran for their continued support of those served by LUM Programs including local families, children and individuals experiencing homelessness.

IBEW Local 668 Donate 36 Hams & More


Generous Gifts to LUM This Holiday Season

Thanks to the members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 668 for their recent donation of 36 hams and macaroni & cheese meals to Lafayette Urban Ministry. The hams will be distributed to local families at the LUM Protein Food Pantry, just in time for Christmas. LUM is grateful to IBEW 668 for their continued support of the LUM mission.

LUM Volunteer Awarded Golden Gift of Time


Nina Morgan Receives Prestigious Service Award

Last week, Nina L. Morgan was presented with the Golden Gift of Time Award as a part of the 24th Annual Volunteer Recognition Program sponsored by the United Way of Greater Lafayette.

At LUM, Nina has been the volunteer director of the Protein Food Pantry for 13 months. She also is a volunteer receptionist once a week, volunteers with Jubilee Christmas, and serves as the chair of the Personnel Committee on the Executive Council of the LUM Board of Directors, representing Grace Lutheran Church. Nina also has recruited many dedicated volunteers to LUM (including her husband, Robert), has engaged her church members and has sewn dozens of face masks for LUM staff and clients.

Nina is an absolute treasure to the community through her work with LUM and her church. She was presented with the award by Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski and West Lafayette Mayor John Dennis (pictured) along with representatives of United Way.
