LUM Camp 2020 is ONLY DAYS Away
LUM Camp kicks off on Tuesday, July 28, for approximately 45 local children. LUM knows that camp is extraordinarily beneficial, and that is why LUM has hosted a camp every summer since the 1960’s. This year, LUM Camp will look different due to COVID-19, but the fun and friendship and life-enhancing benefits will remain the same.
LUM Camp will be filled with traditional “camp” activities. This year LUM also hopes to teach children how to be safe and stay healthy during the pandemic, especially in preparation for what they will deal with when they return to school in the fall. Toward that goal, LUM Camp will have fewer campers and more counselors. During the four-day camp, children will interact in small groups, will see areas be disinfected frequently, have their temperature checked throughout the day, and have staggered meals, learning sessions, and recreation times.
LUM Camp has a few more spots open for campers; and is still accepting applications for volunteer LUM Camp counselors. Donations to LUM Camp are still welcome. Individuals may sponsor a camper for only $150. Would you please invest in both their long-term life skills and their short-term fun by offering them the gift of LUM Camp?
Thanks to the Rotary Club of Lafayette, who presented their gift of $300for two camperships to Wes Tillett, LUM executive director, at their monthly meeting this past Tuesday.
Thank you also to Laura’s Kids for their generous gift of $1,500 for 10 camperships. Laura’s Kids is a nonprofit created in memory of Laura Williams by her sister and brother-in-law, Nancy & Greg Emig, owners of Lafayette Brewing Company.
On behalf of the 2020 LUM Campers, thank you to everyone who has donated so far this year. If you wish to sponsor a camper, click the link above.
Please note: LUM is working closely with the professional staff at Hanging Rock Christian Camp, the long-time host site of LUM Camp. LUM Camp is being planned in compliance with and exceeding the guidelines developed by the American Camp Association and the YMCA of the USA. All donations to LUM Camp will be used entirely on the campers’ experience this year.
