Meet David – New LUM Shelter Director

David P. Heckert is the new program director for LUM Homeless Services. He is responsible for the LUM Emergency Shelter and the Winter Warming Station.

David grew up in Honolulu, Hawaii and now lives in West Lafayette with his wife, Jeanne, and their four children (two girls and two boys). They are members of Connection Point Church, West Lafayette. A graduate of Jefferson High School (Lafayette), David earned an associate’s degree from Ivy Tech in Human Services and a Bachelor of Social Work from the Indiana University School of Social Work in Indianapolis. He has been active with various organizations including the Children’s Policy & Law Initiative of Indiana, National Association of Social Workers, Boy Scouts of America, International Association of Fire Fighters and Home with Hope.

David finds inspiration in “the power of compassion, empathy, faith and respect for life — ALL life.” He is excited to be a part of the team at LUM because of the “professionalism and dedication of the current staff members.” David strives to have a “positive impact on Tippecanoe County by advocating for the needy and by decreasing homelessness in our community” through his work with LUM. For fun, David enjoys kayaking, camping, hiking, hunting, fishing and playing his guitar.

LUM is fortunate to have David Heckert join the LUM staff.
