LUM Immigration Clinic Assists Local Family

The LUM Immigration Clinic often assists local families beyond navigating paperwork with the Immigration & Naturalization Service. Families often need assistance with day-to-day needs and emergencies.

Recently the LUM Immigration Clinic assisted one family in moving their belongings from storage to their new apartment. LUM staff were able to recruit members from two Purdue fraternities (Delta Pi Rho and Sigma Chi) to assist all day one Saturday (pictured). The Immigration Clinic also utilized other LUM services and partnered with a couple of local churches to gather donations and financial assistance to assist the family with new expenses and basics supplies, food and clothing.

This is just one example of how the impact of the LUM Immigration Clinic on local families expands beyond the citizenship and naturalization process.

Two Purdue Groups Plan Halloween Fun for LUM Students

Last week, the students enrolled in the LUM After School Program were treated to  a special Halloween celebration. The members of Timmy Global Health and the Pre-Pharmacy Club at Purdue University sponsored a Halloween party for the students enrolled in the LUM After School Program.

The students dressed up in their costumes, took pictures in a Halloween photo booth, watch Halloween movies, read Halloween stories and even went trick-or-treating. The LUM students are now full of the spirit of the Autumn season — thanks to Timmy Global Health and the Pre-Pharmacy Club! Now that the weather is getting better, the men of Sigma Chi Fraternity (Purdue) are back to work at LUM. Their latest project is to paint the porch at the LUM Ray Ewry Youth Center, Lafayette.

Pictured here is Joe Corcoran who is sanding and preparing the railings for a fresh coat paint.

Thanks, Sigma Chi.

Halloween Fun for the LUM Students

Last week, the students enrolled in the LUM After School Program were treated to two Halloween celebrations. First, the members of Stewart Cooperative at Purdue University brought pumpkins to the students and helped them decorate Jack-o-lanterns.

On another day, the members of the Delta Delta Chapter of Sigma Chi at Purdue hosted a Halloween social for the students at their house. The students dressed up in their costumes and went door-to-door trick-or-treating. The LUM students are now full of the spirit of the Autumn season — thanks to Sigma Chi & Stewart Cooperative! Rajiv Samagond and Lauren Combs, representing the Delta Delta Chapter of Sigma Chi & Gamma Iota Chapter of Delta Gamma at Purdue University, respectively, presented Layette Urban Ministry with a gift of $1,120.94 from the Puppies on the Porch event held earlier this year.

“Puppies on the Porch” was a fundraiser where Sigma Chi & Delta Gamma invited the campus and community to visit their porch and hang out with lots of adorable and huggable puppies — for only $5.

Sigma Chi & Delta Gamma request that the money to be used to support the LUM Jubilee Christmas program; and they hope to be involved as a host site as well.
