  • Assesses clients’ needs and provides support, assistance and referrals

  • Consults regularly with Executive Program Director on GSF activity, trends, and needs
  • Administers grants (for example, EFSP), including submitting the application, providing documentation and submitting required reports
  • Assists and actively participates in fundraising for GSF

ID Clinic

  • Meets with clients to assist them in obtaining valid Indiana ID
  • Prints & processes birth certificate requests
  • Assists clients obtain documentation for the following:
    • Identity
    • Lawful status
    • Residency
    • Social Security Number
  • Works with others to obtain documentation, including extended family, schools, other agencies, and employers
  • Works with the Social Security Administration office and other agencies
  • Obtains court documents as necessary
  • Assists in obtaining children’s birth certificates when needed, including HUD housing, school enrollment, Head Start, and child support proceedings
  • Processes application fees from the GSF account
  • Keeps accurate accounting records and database entries for disbursements

General Duties

  • Evaluate programs and services for quality
  • Attends staff meetings and retreats
  • Submits monthly reports to the Board of Directors
  • Complies with all LUM policies, laws, and NASW code of ethics

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Master’s degree preferred (bachelor’s degree required) from an accredited college or university
  • Proficient in data entry, word processing, and spreadsheets
  • Experience in client relations, program administration and volunteer recruitment and coordination
  • Self-directed and able to work without much supervision
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work cooperatively with diverse people and groups (church, secular, public, private, low income)
  • 2+ years experience working with low-income families from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Fluent in Spanish preferred
  • Able to travel when needed as required by job duties
  • Have a strong faith dynamic as expressed by a willingness to accept and support the LUM Mission Statement
  • Commitment to self-determination of the poor

Lafayette Urban Ministry is an organization of more than 47 churches that serves as a social safety net for local individuals, families and children, through one of 22 programs. Through these programs, LUM helps tackle basic human needs and uplift the people of Greater Lafayette. Through donations and volunteer support, LUM gives back the hope, the future, and the self-respect, which all of our neighbors deserve. 

  • The Financial Assistance Program helps with rent, utilities, employment needs, and medical expenses. The
  • Youth Programs offer enrichment programs all year long, including the After School Program, 5th Quarter Summer Program and LUM Camp, a weeklong, overnight summer camp.
  • The Immigration Clinic provides legal services to help individuals and families navigate the complex immigration and naturalization process.
  • The Protein Food Pantry (downtown Lafyette, IN) and Westside Food Pantry (West Lafayette, IN) offer food items as well as infant, cleaning & hygiene products to households that are food insecure.
  • The ID Clinic helps individuals obtain official birth certificates so they may get a legal ID often required for employment, opening a bank account or voting.
  • The Emergency Shelter and Winter Warming Station provide temporary shelter, food and support to those experiencing homelessness.
  • The Tax Assistance Program assists low income households in preparing and submitting their income tax forms.
  • LUM also sponsors several other events like the Community Thanksgiving FeastJubilee ChristmasDay for DadsHunger Hike, and Port of Hope

  • Immediate Supervisor: Director, Youth Programs

Responsibilities: 

  • Complete all LUM and State required trainings and screenings
  • Supervise children and program daily
  • Assist in development and execution of daily activities
  • Responsible for Transportation of children daily as needed
  • Maintain good communication with supervisor, coworkers, volunteers, and families
  • Assist in daily routines such as snack distribution, outdoor activities, and daily organization and cleanliness

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree in Education preferred

  • Job Status: Part time, 182 days per year
  • Immediate Supervisor: Director, Youth Programs
  • Starting Salary: $15.00 per hour
  • Terms of Employment: As Specified in LUM Personnel Policies
  • Hours of Employment: 20 hours per week, 2:15 pm – 6:15 pm.  Schedule follows the Lafayette School Corporation calendar.

Responsibilities: 

  • Complete all LUM and State required trainings and screenings
  • Supervise ASP children and program daily
  • Assist in development and execution of daily activities
  • Responsible for Transportation of children daily
  • Maintain good communication with supervisor, coworkers, volunteers, and families
  • Assist in daily routines such as snack distribution, outdoor activities, and daily organization and cleanliness
  • Follow guidelines given for Child interaction expectations, Child Guidance and Discipline, and Bus driving and supervision rules
  • Participate in ASP staff meetings

Minimum Requirements:

  • Have a strong faith dynamic as expressed by a willingness to accept and support LUM’s Mission Statement
  • Experience working in a school setting or with children
  • Ability to drive a 14 passenger bus required; willing to obtain a New Hire license
  • Must pass state background check
  • Good verbal and written communication

Bus Driver – After School Program

LUM has immediate openings for Bus Drivers with the LUM After School Program. Please review the information below — and share with others. Applications will be reviewed as received.

Type: Part-time, paid; Pay: $15.00 per hour

Hours: August 11, 2022 through May 24, 2023; Monday-Friday; 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.; 10 hours per week; Schedule follows the Lafayette School Corporation calendar.  If interested, you can also be put on the substitute list for teaching staff.

Duties: Driver for 14-passenger bus. Bus drivers are needed to transport students from local schools to the LUM Ray Ewry Center, 525 N 4th St., Lafayette, IN

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children
  • Valid driver’s license; Good driving record
  • Online training required for driving an activity bus as well as in health, safety, and child development
  • Must pass state background check, and complete new hire screenings

Shelter Security Staff

LUM has a potential opening with the Security Staff with the LUM Emergency Shelter. Details are as follows:

Type: Part-time, paid
Hours: 11-20 hours per week
Shifts: 8 p.m. to midnight -or- midnight to 7 a.m.
Pay: $15.00 per hour
Duties:

  • Maintains safety of guests, volunteers and premises, a team environment modeling mutual respect, and a professional and safe environment
  • Ensures compliance with Shelter Rules
  • Monitors arrival, departure, activity within shelter, activity outside within three blocks of the building
  • Disciplines guests who are noncompliant; refers guests to police when necessary
  • Submits written reports of daily activities and incidents

Office Manager Position

LUM has an opening for Office Manager overseeing the day-to-day operation of the LUM Office as well as the coordination and appreciation of volunteers. 

Office management experience, volunteer recruitment & training experience, strong communication skills, proficiency with computer software and office equipment, and task-orientation are a must. Qualified candidate should have a bachelor’s degree as well as an engaging personality and positive outlook.
