Shelter Meals Matter Every Single Night of the Year
As part of the LUM Summer of Service, LUM is inviting community members to help ensure that every guest at the LUM Emergency Shelter receives a nutritious, plentiful evening meal—365 days a year, including weekends and holidays. While summer brings vacations and changing schedules, the need for meals at the shelter never decreases.
The photo collage above celebrates the many volunteers who have answered the call this year — families, churches, businesses, schools, and civic & service groups from across the community. Students serve alongside retirees, coworkers alongside neighbors, and first-time volunteers alongside longtime supporters. Many groups serve two or more times each month.
Providing a meal does more than satisfy hunger. Through a casserole, sandwich, or simple conversation, volunteers gain a deeper understanding of homelessness and discover ways to show compassion, dignity, and hospitality without judgment.
