Meet the LUM Summer Education Team
5th Quarter – An Impactful Summer Youth Program
LUM proudly introduces the dedicated team behind the LUM 5th Quarter Summer Learning Program. Led by Kristi Hogue, the LUM Youth Programs director, and Kate Dejong, assistant director, this team of talented and nurturing educators is supported each weekday by committed volunteers.
Kristi Hogue
Kristi, originally from Logansport and now residing in Lafayette with her husband Jeff and their three children—Taelynn (24), Jaedren (17), and Maekenna (12)—brings a wealth of experience and passion to her role. Kristi earned a BS in Child Development & Family Studies from Purdue University and a Master of Arts in Education with a certificate in autism from Ball State University. She is also a member of the National After-School Association, reflecting her dedication to enriching the educational experiences of children in our community.
Kate DeJong
Kate grew up in Bodinayakanur, South India and now lives in West Lafayette with her husband, Shane, and their three children, Jayda (8), Wyatt (6), and Athena (4 months). She earned an associate degree from Ivy Tech and bachelor’s from Ball State University, both in Early Childhood Education. Kate plans on starting her Masters in Early Childhood & Special Needs next year.
Kassidy Hansen
Kassidy grew up in Wilmington, Illinois, and now lives in West Lafayette. She earned a bachelor’s in Speech-language Pathology from Illinois State University and is working on her Master’s in Speech-language Pathology from Purdue University.
Bethany Janes
grew up and still lives in Lafayette with her two children, Faythe (high school sophomore) and Gabriel (first grade). She graduated from Faith Christian High School and earned her associates degree in Human Services at Ivy Tech Community College.
Alejandra Llorca-Overall
Alejandra grew up in Alicante, Spain and Guatemala City, Guatemala. She now lives in Lafayette. Alejandra earned a bachelor’s degree from Universidad del Valle de Guatemala and Masters in Chemistry and Spanish Education both from Purdue University.
Joy McKinney
Joyanne “Joy” grew up and still lives in Lafayette with her dog. She has three grown children (Christian 26, Nathan 23 & Elizabeth 19), who also live in Lafayette. Joy graduated from Jefferson High School and is progressing toward an associates degree at Ivy Tech Community College.
Ty’Jairese Nevings
Ty’Jairese grew up in Muncie, Indiana, and she now lives in Lafayette with her daughter. Ty’Jairese graduated from Jefferson High School. In addition to her role at LUM, Ty’Jairese is also a nursery school teacher at a her church in Muncie.
Sara Siener
Sara grew up in Lafayette and lives here with her family. She graduated from Harrison High School and earned a bachelor’s in English and Education from Purdue. In addition to her work at LUM, Sara is an 8th grade English teacher in MSD Pike Township and working on obtaining her Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) Certificate.
Breanne Stanley
Breanne grew up in Lafayette and now resides in Reynolds with her husband James. She has two children, Faythe (HS senior) and Gabriel (third grade), and three bonus children, Kadyn (HS senior), Christian (HS sophomore), and Karli (5th grade). She attended Faith Christian High School and earned her associates degree in Human Services at Ivy Tech Community College.
Caitlin Vannice
Caitlin grew up in Crawfordsville, Indiana, and lives in Lafayette.
She graduated from North Montgomery High School. In addition to her role at LUM, Caitlin has been a nanny. She is also the proud auntie to several nieces and nephews.
