LUM Volunteer of the Month – Lori Hullinger
LUM Volunteer of the Month – November 2023
Lori was born in Onarga, Illinois, and now lives in West Lafayette, Indiana, with her husband David. They have four children and six grandchildren.
Lori has been actively involved with LUM for more than ten years. She started by washing dishes at the LUM Community Thanksgiving Feast. Today, Lori helps manage the kitchen operations at the annual Thanksgiving event, volunteers weekly at the LUM Protein Food Pantry (pictured), and assists with assembling LUM mailings. Her passion for individuals experiencing food insecurity is unwavering. This in addition to her work ethic, reliability, thoughtfulness, and quiet leadership have earned Lori the well-deserved honor of LUM Volunteer of the Month.
Lori enjoys that she and David (pictured) are often able to volunteer at LUM together. When reflecting on “what gives her the most pride in volunteering with LUM,” she shared that,
“LUM does so much for our community with all of its varied programs. It is wonderful to work with the other volunteers to benefit those in need in our community.”
Lori added that,
“LUM has many opportunities for volunteering so you can choose what fits best for you. All the volunteers I have encountered are awesome to work with. LUM leadership is extremely grateful for the volunteers, and you feel very appreciated.”
Lori graduated from Onarga High School and earned a degree in Organizational Leadership & Supervision from Purdue University. She retired in 2021 as the assistant director of administration & conferences with University Residences at Purdue. In addition to volunteering at LUM, Lori enjoys spending time with her family, reading, hiking, traveling, and playing the piano.
