Meet Angel – New LUM Staff Member

Angel Valentín, LUM Director – Finance Assistance Program & ID Clinic

Angel J. Valentín is the new LUM director of the Financial Assistance Program & ID Clinic. He grew up in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico and currently lives in West Lafayette with his partner, Apoorva Bademi. Angel is fluent in Spanish and English.

When reflecting on his excitement and pride in joining the LUM team, he states,

LUM is a rock in the world of financial assistance. That is so much so that one of the first questions other non-profits and government agencies will ask is “have you gone to LUM?” I’m grateful for the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Mary Anderson, Linda Hicks, and others who have done so much for our community.

Since he started at LUM, Angel has enjoyed working in partnership with the highly-skilled LUM volunteer advocates to help families in need throughout the county with assistance with rent and utilities. He further shared that,

The work of restoring human dignity to all members of our community is a hard, arduous process. We must continue to advocate for our community, and work to create more community partners who will help us meet the challenges that many of our neighbors face.

Angel graduated from Liceo Aquadillano and earned a bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University. He is the Wabash Township Trustee and serves on the boards of the Wesley Foundation at Purdue and CityBus. In his free time, Angel enjoys disc golf, bird watching, and hiking; and his favorite quote is,

“A vote is a kind of prayer for the kind of world we desire for ourselves and for our children, and I think our prayers are stronger when we pray together.”

US Senator Rev. Raphael Warnock

LUM is fortunate to have someone with Angel’s experience and energy join the LUM staff. Please join us in welcoming him.
