LUM Immigration Clinic Offers Families Hope
Cutting Red Tape & Providing Free Legal Assistance
“You gave us hope.” A refugee from Ukraine expressed those words to the LUM Immigration Clinic director, Christian Gallo. She and her two school-age children are three of the more than 14,000,000 Ukrainians who have fled their homes since the Russian invasion. Her husband, their father, had to remain in Ukraine to fight in the war. In light of all these hardships, her words are substantial —
“You gave us hope.”
The devastations of war, violence, and oppression can create a sense of hopelessness. And it’s not just Ukraine. In Afghanistan, Ethiopia, various places in Latin America, the Middle East, and elsewhere — this very day people are fleeing for their lives. Yet in the midst of this chaos, the LUM Immigration Clinic gives hope. The LUM Immigration Clinic exists to help immigrants in Greater Lafayette successfully navigate all the red tape of the US immigration system. Each year the Immigration Clinic offers hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of certified legal assistance to those who otherwise could not afford it. It is the only program of its kind in Tippecanoe County and the surrounding eight-county area.
