Thanks Hattie!

It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Hattie R. recently celebrated her 7th birthday — and in lieu of presents asked her friends to bring to her birthday party a donation to “help the homeless.” Hattie donated $110 to Lafayette Urban Ministry. What a remarkable girl. Thanks to Hattie, her friends — and her mom (Karah R.), for this generous gift to LUM.

Thanks to every group, company, church and individual who have donated “needed items” to Jubilee Christmas, the Community Thanksgiving Celebration, and all of our other programs.

With Joe Micon, LUM executive director, pictured here is Hattie R., one of the many individuals, companies and groups who purchased “needed items” for LUM from our Online Wish List.

Immigration 101 Workshop at St. Lawrence

Susan Brouillette, program immigration101director of the LUM Immigration Clinic, presented a workshop entitled “Immigration 101” at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Lafayette. The presentation was hosted by the St. Lawrence Social Justice Team and was part of the parish’s celebration of the Year of Mercy. In her remarks, Susan explained the basics of immigration while providing a context regarding the undocumented population, the factors that contribute to their migration, and the options for finding a path forward.

The St. Lawrence Social Justice Team engaged the attendees in a conversation about how the gospel informs a faithful attitude and response to the topic of immigration. To view the Immigration 101 slide presentation, click HERE.

St. Lawrence Social Justice Committee

Outreach is an important part of the LUM mission. The staff of Lafayette Urban Ministry often get invited to speak to classes, churches and civic groups — about the services of LUM and ways to get engaged and make an investment in our community through LUM.
