Port of Hope 2021 benefits LUM Immigration Clinic

Lively Evening for a Great Cause

The sixth annual Port of Hope fundraiser benefiting the LUM Immigration Clinic featured lively entertainment, global cuisine, a marketplace of auction items and wonderful fellowship. The community came together at the Lafayette Brewing Company to support the LUM Immigration Clinic and celebrate the diversity of Greater Lafayette.

In addition to the Port of Hope participants, LUM board members and local religious leaders, Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski, West Lafayette Mayor John Dennis, Indiana State Representative Sheila Klinker, Lafayette City Council member Nancy Nargi, and West Lafayette City Council member Kathy Parker were also in attendance. Many thanks to the Port of Hope sponsors, restaurants, and donors. These businesses and individuals generously give to the Immigration Clinic. Please show them your support and let them know that you saw them at Port of Hope. Without the support of our sponsors, donors, and guests, paired with efforts of our tireless volunteers, this successful event would not be possible.

Congratulations to the Immigration Clinic director and assistance director, Christian Gallo and Yanina Gomez Szyszko, for taking Port of Hope to another level. With your help and the help of everyone who contributed, the Port of Hope will raise the funds needed to continue the good work of the LUM Immigration Clinic.

Port of Hope 2020 – Most Successful Ever

$96,548 Raised for the LUM Immigration Clinic

The fifth annual Port of Hope raised $96,582.62 for the LUM Immigration Clinic. Despite COVID-19, the Port of Hope fundraiser was the most successful one yet.

The Port of Hope team began re-imagining this important fundraiser months in advance and created a variety of exciting experiences. To create more excitement and get more advocates engaged, there were two additional events that led up to the main event — Who’s That Masked Donor? and the PoH Scavenger Hunt.

The main event was the Port of Hope Virtual Experience. Participants joined the event online and were treated to a performance by Clave Caribe, Zumba lesson with Carlitos Centellas, and a cooking demonstration by Aparna Puri interspersed with client and volunteer interviews highlighting the positive impact of the LUM Immigration Clinic in our community. It was an upbeat, exciting Virtual Experience that is now available to view online. At the end of this article are links to Port of Hope Virtual Experience as well as videos with Nohemi Lugo, Hispanic Advocate for the YWCA Domestic Violence Program, and Drs. Ketan and Tenuja Sheth, the donors behind the $30,000 matching grant. If you have been to any of the live Port of Hope events you will want to click on the Port of Hope Photo Montage as well.

A big part of the success of this year’s Port of Hope was due to the generosity of the Sheth Family. Drs. Ketan & Tanuja Sheth have offered a $30,000 Match Donation.” As an immigrant and the child of immigrants themselves, Ketan and Tanuja understand the importance of quality immigration services being available to those most in need and are passionate about the impact the LUM Immigration Clinic has on our community.

$30,000 Match – LUM Immigration Clinic

Double Your Donation – Double Your Impact

LUM is thrilled to announce that Drs. Tanuja & Ketan Sheth (pictured) are offering a “$30,000 Match Donation” challenge in support of the LUM Immigration Clinic. Take advantage of this remarkable opportunity to “double your donation” to LUM and increase your impact in helping our immigrant neighbors, thanks to the wonderful generosity of the Sheth family.

Here is how it works: make a donation to the LUM Immigration Clinic by Monday, November 30 and Drs. Ketan & Tanuja Sheth will match all donations up to $30,000! As an immigrant and the child of immigrants themselves, Ketan and Tanuja understand the importance of quality immigration services being available to those most in need and are passionate about the impact the LUM Immigration Clinic has on our community.

All money goes to support local legal immigration services through the LUM Immigration Clinic, which in 2019 helped 256 individuals with immigration and naturalization processes, providing hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of certified legal counsel. The effect of this assistance has been nothing short of life-changing to those immigrants who receive it.

One person recently wrote to LUM stating, “It’s hard to put into words the impact your help has made in our lives… Since obtaining [the LUM Immigration Clinic’s] help with our immigration process, my husband was able to obtain his work permit and his income has helped me out with my family and school debt. I no longer have to work two or three jobs. I no longer have to miss important family moments. I no longer have to choose work over my health… We would not be where we are today without your help.”

Please seize this wonderful chance to double your financial impact in assisting our neighbors. Thank you to Drs. Ketan and Tanuja Sheth for their generosity and challenge, and thanks in advance for any financial support you choose to give.
