LUM Retirement Follies 2020


You Are Cordially Invited to Attend the…

Join us for the ninth annual  LUM Follies  and help us celebrate Joe Micon, LUM Executive Director , who is retiring on March 31. The event is on Friday,  March 6  at 7 p.m. and includes a program to honor Joe Micon for his  41 years of service  to our community through his work at  Lafayette Urban Ministry . The celebration will include performances by the Purdue  Black Voices of Inspiration , Purdue  Glee Club , and  Michael Kelsey  as well as a large  Ecumenical Choir  representing the many churches that make up the membership of the LUM Board of Directors. There will be tributes, presentations, videos and much lighthearted fun. After the program, there will be a reception with refreshments, sponsored by Lafayette Brewing Co.  LUM Follies is FREE & open to all. To learn more, click HERE.

Save the Date for the 8th annual LUM Good Samaritan Fund Follies. The event is a lighthearted evening of fine dining, entertainment, fun & good company — filled with delightful surprises. The best part is that 100% of the proceeds from this event go to the LUM Good Samaritan Fund, an emergency financial assistance program that supports local families. LUM Follies’ Details and Schedule are as follows:

Row-A-Thon 2018 Raises $16,231 for LUM


Purdue Crew Supports LUM Good Samaritan Fund


The Purdue Crew Team raised $16,231 for the LUM Good Samaritan Fundthrough the 9th annual Purdue Row-a-Thon event which took place on February 17 at the local shopping mall. This is the single largest gift to the LUM Good Samaritan Program again this year.

The “big” check was presented to Joe Micon, LUM executive director, last Sunday at their end of the year banquet.

The LUM Good Samaritan Fund provides our community’s neediest families and children with a strong & reliable safety net. Emergency financial assistance is available for utility bills, rent, prescription medications, work clothes, and food. No operating expenses are taken out of this fund. In 2017, assistance was provided through the LUM Good Samaritan Program 2,032 times, totaling $115, 314.

Meet the LUM Interns – Spring 2018


Rhyannon Barrett
Originally from Sweet Home, Oregon, Rhyannon now lives in Lafayette.

She is matriculating toward an Associates Degree in Human Services from Ivy Tech Community College. She will graduate in May 2018 and plans to pursue an advanced degree in Social Work.

As an intern at LUM, Rhyannon is working with the Good Samaritan Program & Emergency Shelter.


Kaitlyn Hettinger
Kaitlyn grew up and still lives in Lafayette.

She is matriculating toward an Associates Degree in Human Services from Ivy Tech Community College. Kaitlyn will graduate in December 2018 and plans to pursue an advanced degree in Social Work.

As an intern at LUM, Kaitlyn is working with the After School Program.


Erice Perez
Originally from Avon, Erice now lives in West Lafayette.

She is matriculating toward a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science & Public Relations from Purdue University, West Lafayette. Erice will graduate in May 2018 and is planning on working for a non profit in the field of PR, with eventual plans to get a degree in law.

As the Klinker-Alting Intern at LUM, Erice is working with the Campaign for Hoosier Families.


Saedie Spikes
Originally from Fowler, Saedie now lives in Lafayette.

She earned an Associates Degree in Human Services from Ivy Tech Community College and is matriculating toward a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Indiana University – Purdue University in Indianapolis. Saedie will graduate from IUPUI in May 2018 and plans to pursue an advanced degree in Social Work.

As an intern at LUM, Saedie is working with the After School Program.

LUM Awarded $17,000 Federal EFSP Grant


Lafayette Urban Ministry has been recently awarded $17,250 in Phase 34 Emergency Food and Shelter Program funding. EFSP is a program of the federal government designed to quickly provide emergency relief to those in our nation with critical food and shelter needs.

This award will have a tremendous positive impact on LUM’s ability to assist families with critical food needs through the LUM Good Samaritan Fund and to offer emergency housing to individuals in transition at the LUM Emergency Shelter.

Purdue Crew Row-A-Thon Raises $13,150


Purdue Crew donates $13,150 to LUM

At their end of the year banquet, the Purdue Crew Team presented Lafayette Urban Ministry with a check for $13,150 for the LUM Good Samaritan Fund – — a 35% increase over last year’s amount. This is the single largest gift to the LUM Good Samaritan Program each year.

The monies were raised by the Purdue Crew Team members through the eighth annual Purdue Row-a-Thon event which took place on Saturday, February 4 at the Tippecanoe Mall.
