In addition to the two Purdue coaches serving as 2021 honorary co-chairs (see below), Hunger Hike will also feature Purdue Pete, the Purdue Cheer team, the Purdue Crew Team, and the Boilermaker Special. The Purdue Cheer team will perform with Purdue Pete. Thanks to Purdue Athletics, Purdue Reamer Club, and Purdue Crew Team for their support.

Coaches Versyp & Walker are perfect ambassadors for Hunger Hike. Both set the bar high for their own work and their teams. They have a serious commitment to serving their community — especially in supporting food assistance and nutrition programs. You’ll get to meet them and the student-athletes on their teams as well as see a Purdue Crew team “shell.”

Indiana State Rep. Klinker to Sing National Anthem
Sheila Klinker , Indiana State Representative, will kick-off Hunger Hike with the singing of the US National Anthem with her daughter, Kelly Jacob.
State Representative Sheila Klinker was first elected in 1982 to represent District 27. A proud Boilermaker alumna, Klinker taught for more than 34 years in the Lafayette School Corporation and served as the Outreach Liaison for the Purdue School of Education for 15 years. As a college student, Klinker was named “Miss Purdue” and finished as second runner-up in the “Miss Indiana” contest. Klinker lives in Lafayette with her husband, Victor. They have three children and five grandchildren.

Hunger Hike is a family event for individuals & teams whose mission is to Raise Awareness & Make a Difference in the Fight Against Hunger. (And it’s Dog Friendly.) The traditional Hunger Hike 3K Walk is THIS Sunday (September 19) from Noon – 3:30 p.m. at Riehle Plaza, N 2nd Street, Lafayette. There will be DJ music, princesses, National Anthem, clowns, remarks & more! {Due to COVID-19 — We strongly encourage everyone at Hunger Hike this year to wear a mask. Together we can help protect the most vulnerable among us.}

Hunger Hike 2021 begins THIS Sunday, September 12, with Challenge Week, a week-long challenge for “Hikers” and “Teams,” where you are encourage to “Walk Far in the Fight Against Hunger.” Here’s what you do to get started:
REGISTER – Individuals & groups can create online fundraising pages for themselves and their team and begin fundraising today.
CHALLENGE– Set yourself a personal challenge for the week:
Walk 100,000 steps | Walk five miles every day
Run 100 miles | Go on a 10 mile run
Ride your bike 100 miles | Swim two miles a day
Fast for two to four days | Stop eating meat for the week
SNAP CHALLENGE – Take the SNAP Challenge and feed your family on the average Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefit ($30 per person for the week) – for more information, click HERE
DO IT – walk, run, bike, swim, cook, fast — and raise money for Hunger Hike
SHARE – Post your progress on social media (using #HungerHike) and on your personal fundraising page and encourage your friends to give to Hunger Hike to support your challenge.
