Local Students Serving at LUM with Purpose

Across Greater Lafayette, students are discovering that service is more than an activity—it’s a meaningful way to care for others. Recently, three local school groups supported the LUM Winter Warming Station by preparing meals for guests experiencing homelessness.

At Cole Elementary School, second-grade students packed 150 meal bags as part of a long-standing annual tradition. With all supplies donated by families and staff, students worked together to prepare meals while learning about kindness and responsibility. Year after year, this effort helps young students understand the importance of giving back to their community in meaningful ways.

At Klondike Middle School, National Junior Honor Society students prepared meals, delivered donations, and contributed financial support to LUM. Their visit included time to learn more about local services and the needs of individuals experiencing homelessness. Through both service and leadership, these students demonstrated how compassion and action can work together to make a lasting impact.

At Murdock Elementary School, families, students, and community partners came together during a Family Dinner event to assemble 150 sack lunches. Donations from school families, staff, and local supporters made the effort possible. The experience brought people together in a spirit of generosity, showing students how small, thoughtful actions can provide comfort and care to neighbors in need.

The LUM Winter Warming Station is a life-saving service providing warmth, meals, and hope during the coldest months. It relies on community support. If your group is interested in helping, consider joining these students—because even small acts of kindness can have a lasting impact.
