Purdue FIJI Raises $28,183 for LUM Shelter

At a recent chapter meeting, James Klekovkin and Connor Ruhnow presented Wes Tillett, LUM executive director, with a $28,182.64 check on behalf of Purdue Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI) for their Run the Ball fundraiser. FIJI revived its tradition of running a football from West Lafayette to Bloomington ahead of the Old Oaken Bucket football game, turning their rivalry into a philanthropic challenge between Purdue and IU. Purdue’s Lambda Iota chapter raised funds for LUM Homeless Services, while IU supported a Bloomington shelter.

Despite running on the coldest day of the year last Friday, the men completed the run, demonstrating their dedication. Purdue raised more than IU, providing crucial support as LUM celebrates the 40th Anniversary of Homeless Services. This generous gift is not only the largest single gift to LUM Homeless Services but also comes at a critical time, with winter increasing the demand for LUM’s services. The support from Purdue FIJI provides both a morale and financial boost, helping LUM continue tackling basic human needs and uplifting the people of Greater Lafayette.

Purdue FIJI Run-the-Ball Event Supports LUM

Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI) is reviving its tradition of running a football from West Lafayette to Bloomington ahead of the annual Old Oaken Bucket football game between Purdue and Indiana Universities. This year, the Purdue and IU FIJI chapters have teamed up to make the Run the Ball event their largest philanthropy effort yet, with each chapter setting a goal to raise $100,000 for their selected nonprofit.

The Lambda Iota chapter at Purdue is raising funds for Lafayette Urban Ministry, in support of the critical services LUM provides for individuals experiencing homelessness in Greater Lafayette. The IU chapter is raising funds for a shelter in Bloomington. Both chapters are using this event as an opportunity not only to celebrate their school rivalry but also to engage in friendly competition to see who can raise more funds—Purdue or IU. While LUM urges supporters to select “Purdue,” we appreciate any contributions made to support the Run the Ball event. Here are a few ways you can contribute:
