LUM Summer Students Learning & Growing

LUM 5th Quarter Narrows the Achievement Gap

Since its beginning, the LUM 5th Quarter Summer Learning Program has been focused on one thing — stopping the loss of academic skills and knowledge that occurs during the summer months. This “summer achievement gap” may impact all elementary and middle school students, but students from low-income families are especially at risk.

Students who are not enrolled in a program like LUM 5th Quarter return to school in the fall as many as five months behind their peers, forget information and spend months trying to catch up. Some never do. LUM is confident that the 5th Quarter students are at pace with or ahead of their peers when they return to school due to the enhanced learning curriculum and experiences offered through the LUM 5th Quarter Summer Learning Program. This summer, there are 72 local students enrolled. Meet the LUM summer teaching team below.
