Meet the LUM Immigration Clinic Team

Providing Immigration Advice & Assistance

The LUM Immigration Clinic depends on a team of highly skilled, trained & accredited staff and volunteers. Led by the director and assistant director, Christian Gallo & Yanina Gomez Szyszko, volunteer attorneys, accredited representatives, program volunteers and interns are providing immigration advice, filling out immigration forms, and drafting legal documents for cases.


Meet the Staff

Christian Gallo, the LUM Immigration Clinic director, grew up in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina and now lives in Lafayette with his three children. Christian earned his baccalaureate degree from Colegio Champagnat, Master in Laws degree from Indiana University, and JD from Universidad Católica Argentina (Buenos Aires). He has been a member of the Ciudad de Buenos Aires Bar since 1995 and Indiana Commission on Hispanic and Latino Affairs for more than 10 years. Christian is fluent in four languages (English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian) as well as speaking basic French. Christian enjoys being with his family and coaching soccer and rugby. In 2007, he was the coach of the Purdue Women’s Rugby team. 

Yanina Gomez Szyszko, the LUM Immigration Clinic Assistant Director, grew up in Buenos Aires, Argentina, has lived in Copenhagen, Denmark and Valencia, Spain, and currently lives in Lafayette, Indiana. Yanina graduated from Escuela Cristiana Evangélica Argentina (E.C.E.A) in Buenos Aires, has studied Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Buenos Aires; and is currently enrolled at the International University of Valencia pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Her goal is to complete a Master of Clinical Psychology by 2025. Yanina speaks both English and Spanish. She is an avid volunteer working with agencies in Denmark, Spain, Argentina, Poland and the United States (Lafayette) that focus on children, nutrition, fair labor, homelessness, food distribution and waste, elderly and animals.


Meet Three Super Star Volunteers

Judge Tom Busch grew up in Chicago & California and lives in West Lafayette with his wife, Kathy. Judge Busch earned a bachelor’s degree from University of Chicago and a law degree from New York University. He and Kathy are retired and have three grown children. Their son and one daughter live in Berkeley, CA, and the other daughter lives in Italy. His love of his family and seeing them often was the reason he decided to retire from the bench in Tippecanoe Circuit Court in 2017 after serving for 15 years. Judge Tom Busch is currently Senior Judge in Tippecanoe County, serving when needed. He has been volunteering with LUM since 2018.

Dr. Margaret Hass grew up in Lafayette, graduated from Jefferson High School, and lives in Lafayette with her husband, Vinayak, and their baby, Jyotika. She completed her bachelor’s degree at Amherst College before earning an M.A. from the University of Tuebingen (Germany) and PhD in Cultural Studies from the University of Bergamo (Italy) and Jawaharlal Nehru University (India). Margaret currently teaches in the Purdue Language and Cultural Exchange (PLaCE) program and serves as the president of Greater Lafayette Immigrant Allies. Margaret is passionate about making our community a more welcoming place for all. She has been a volunteer with the LUM Immigration Clinic since 2016 and an accredited representative since 2019.

Adelia Sorge grew up in Oakwood, Ohio. She and her husband, Dennis, now live in West Lafayette. She earned her BA in Psychology with a comprehensive in language from Manchester University as well as two Master’s degrees in Child Development and Counseling, both from Purdue University. Adelia retired as a Purdue Krannert School of Management academic advisor. She & Dennis are active members of St. John’s Episcopal Church and have three grown children, all of whom graduated from Purdue, and eight grandchildren, two who are currently enrolled at Purdue. Adelia has been volunteering with LUM since 2015.
