International Fellows Engage with LUM

This past Tuesday, 45 “fellows” from the Benjamin Franklin Summer Institute at Purdue spent the morning learning about and volunteering at Lafayette Urban Ministry.

The 2015 Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic Fellows Summer Institute is held June 27-July 20150714_103539 (2) goldborder25 on the campus of Purdue University, West Lafayette. Ten U.S. Fellows (aged 16 to 18) join 36 international Fellows from Europe for 18 days in the summer to learn about US culture and democracy as well as from each other. The Ben Franklin Summer Institute is directed by Anatoli Rappaport, associate professor of Curriculum & Instruction in the College of Education at Purdue.


20150714_103750 (2) goldborderOn this day, the fellows learned about the programs & services offered by LUM and our partnership with 42 member churches on behalf of working families and at-risk children. The students engaged in various projects to clean and enhance LUM in both of our buildings and all of our grounds. They also assisted in the removal of our last ornamental pear tree.


LUM extends sincere appreciation to all of the Ben Franklin Institute students for their interest in and service to Lafayette Urban Ministry.
