LUM Annual Staff Retreat – Productive Day

Focus on Diversity, Racism & Inclusion

Recently, the Lafayette Urban Ministry staff members participated in a daylong “retreat” at Hanging Rock Christian Assembly Camp, West Lebanon.

The main focus of this year’s retreat on diversity, racism & inclusion. Joe Micon, LUM executive director, led the retreat using White Fragility: Why It’s So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism by Robin DiAngelo for the retreat curriculum (with permission from C-Span). The LUM staff members watched DiAngelo’s recent presentation on C-Span Books — and related it to their work at LUM. It was powerful retreat — everyone was open-minded, eager to learn and excited to grow. The staff also had an opportunity to learn more about each other — creating a stronger team. Everyone is now refreshed and motivated to improve their work with clients, guests, volunteers, children/students & families.
