LUM Staff Host Reception for LUM Spring Interns

Special THANK YOU to all of the LUM Interns for their valuable contributions this past Spring semester. Best wishes to all of our interns, especially Evie Griffin, Rob Krasa Angela Weaver, who are graduating. Evie & Rob will receive their MSW from IU, and Angela, her BA from Purdue, at ceremonies this weekend. John Schumann will continue his studies toward his MSW.

Interns allow LUM to serve our youth, clients and guests with increased efficiency and innovation. Thanks also to Purdue University, Ivy Tech Community College and the IU School of Social Work for trusting LUM with the education and supervision of their talented intern students.

Meet the LUM Interns – Spring 2019


Evie Griffin 

Evie is a naturalized US citizen from Estonia, grew up in Marion County and now lives in Cutler, Indiana with her husband, Timothy, and their 20-month old son. After high school, Evie enlisted in the US Marine Corp and served for five years in various locations including southeast Asia. She earned a bachelor’s degree in social work from IUPUI and is currently enrolled in the Master of Social Work program at the Indiana University School of Social Work (Indianapolis).

At LUM, Evie is working as an intern with the LUM Tax Assistance Program.


Robert Krasa 

Rob is from Toledo, Ohio and now lives in Lafayette with his wife, Jessie, who also grew up in Toledo. He earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Toledo and and is currently enrolled in the Master of Social Work program at the Indiana University School of Social Work (Indianapolis). Rob also worked for nine years in community mental health counseling and group program development.

At LUM, Rob is an intern with the Campaign for Hoosier Families and the LUM Dream Team Fund.


John Schumann 

John is from Lafayette and now lives in West Lafayette with his wife, Karen. They have four grown children. He earned a bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture from Purdue University and is currently enrolled in the Master of Social Work program at the Indiana University School of Social Work (Indianapolis). John is also the owner of Schumann Custom Building & Landscaping.
At LUM, John is an intern with the LUM Emergency Shelter and Winter Warming Station.


Angela Weaver

Angela grew up in Wheatfield, Indiana and now lives in West Lafayette with her husband, Kyle, and their beagle, Bailey. Angela & Kyle grew up together and are both students at Purdue University. She will complete her degree in three years this May with a bachelor’s in Law & Society.

At LUM, Angela is the LUM Klinker-Alting Family Advocacy Intern working with the Campaign for Hoosier Families.

Meet the LUM Interns – Spring 2018


Rhyannon Barrett
Originally from Sweet Home, Oregon, Rhyannon now lives in Lafayette.

She is matriculating toward an Associates Degree in Human Services from Ivy Tech Community College. She will graduate in May 2018 and plans to pursue an advanced degree in Social Work.

As an intern at LUM, Rhyannon is working with the Good Samaritan Program & Emergency Shelter.


Kaitlyn Hettinger
Kaitlyn grew up and still lives in Lafayette.

She is matriculating toward an Associates Degree in Human Services from Ivy Tech Community College. Kaitlyn will graduate in December 2018 and plans to pursue an advanced degree in Social Work.

As an intern at LUM, Kaitlyn is working with the After School Program.


Erice Perez
Originally from Avon, Erice now lives in West Lafayette.

She is matriculating toward a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science & Public Relations from Purdue University, West Lafayette. Erice will graduate in May 2018 and is planning on working for a non profit in the field of PR, with eventual plans to get a degree in law.

As the Klinker-Alting Intern at LUM, Erice is working with the Campaign for Hoosier Families.


Saedie Spikes
Originally from Fowler, Saedie now lives in Lafayette.

She earned an Associates Degree in Human Services from Ivy Tech Community College and is matriculating toward a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Indiana University – Purdue University in Indianapolis. Saedie will graduate from IUPUI in May 2018 and plans to pursue an advanced degree in Social Work.

As an intern at LUM, Saedie is working with the After School Program.

Meet Ally – LUM Spring Intern


Ally Wong LUM Intern, Campaign for Hoosier Families


Ally is from Pleasanton, California.

She is currently enrolled at Purdue University, West Lafayette.

Ally is an undergraduate student with a double major in History and Philosophy in the College of Liberal Arts. Ally will earn her bachelor’s degree and graduate from Purdue in May 2017.

 

 

Meet Gina – LUM Spring Intern


Gina Williams LUM Intern, Administration


Gina grew up in Indianapolis and now lives in Lafayette with her dog of 12 years, Yoshi, and her husband of two months, Rob.

She earned a Bachelor’s degree from Purdue University in psychology and is currently earning her Master of Social Work degree at Indiana University, Indianapolis. Gina also serves as the director of the LUM Emergency Shelter.

 

 

Meet Amanda – LUM Spring Intern

Amanda grew up and currently lives in Lafayette with her husband, Robert.

She earned an associates degree from Ivy Tech Community College in Human Services, a BSW in Social Work from IUPUI, and is currently enrolled at the IU School of Social Work toward a Masters of Social Work, which she will complete in May 2017.

 

Meet the LUM Summer Intern—Samantha


Meet Samantha Habbinga — the second LUM Summer Intern.


S2016-06-07 Habbinga_Samantha 001 (2) (1280x895)he grew up in Lafayette and graduated from Jefferson High School. Samantha now lives in New Richmond with her husband, Jeremey, and their 3-year-old daughter, Kodie.

She earned a BA in secondary English education and  a BS in psychology from Purdue University, West Lafayette. Samantha is currently working on her Master of Social Work at the Indiana University School of Social Work, Indianapolis — anticipated graduation this December.

At LUM, she will be working with a few different programs including the Good Samaritan Program, LUM Camp, Shelter Intake & the 5th Quarter Summer Learning Program.

After graduation, Samantha hopes to use her education & experience to be a licensed “play therapist” in private practice. LUM is fortunate to have her join our team this summer.

 

Meet the LUM Summer Intern—Kathrine


Meet Kathrine Schulze — the new LUM Summer Intern.

She grew up and lives in West Lafayette with her parents, Diane Stott and Darrell Schulze — who both work in the College of Agriculture at Purdue. Her older brother, Brian, is married and living in Lafayette. The family members attend First United Methodist Church, West Lafayette. A graduate of West Lafayette High School, Kathrine is currently a senior at Indiana University—Bloomington.

Kathrine is majoring in both journalism and history with a minor in law & public policy; and has been active with the Indiana Daily Student, the daily campus newspaper at IU, serving as the managing editor this past spring. After graduation in May 2017, she plans on attending law school and pursuing a career in international law.

At LUM, Kathrine will be working with Susan Brouillette in the Campaign for Hoosier Families and other social justice projects. Susan shared that

“given her experience as a journalist and interest in public policy, Kathrine has the perfect combination of skills to bring new energy to the Campaign for Hoosier Families. She’s only been with us two weeks and has already done amazing work.”

Kathrine personally hopes to gain experience with legislation at the State House and “the advocacy side” to complement her journalism experience.

LUM is fortunate to have Kathrine join the team for the summer. Join us in welcoming her.

Welcome Emmy Rawson to LUM


Picture2Please join us in welcoming Emmy Rawson to the LUM staff this summer as the morning receptionist.

Emmy is from Muncie, Indiana, and is a fulltime student at Purdue University, West Lafayette.

At Purdue, Emmy is studying cellular and molecular engineering in the College of Agriculture and the College of Science. Emmy hopes to someday use her experience at LUM and her education to be an advocate for others in need.

Emmy is also an athlete. She is a member of the Purdue University swim team. Emmy competes in the butterfly.

LUM is thrilled to welcome Emmy to our team.
