LUM Volunteer of the Month – Elder O. Brooks
Faithful Service and Joyful Spirit at the LUM Food Pantry
Recognizing Dedication and Faith
Lafayette Urban Ministry is pleased to announce Elder O. Brooks (Ryan) as the Volunteer of the Month for October 2025. This recognition reflects our deep appreciation for his dedicated service at the LUM Protein Food Pantry.
Originally from the “cornfield-filled countryside” near Lafayette, Elder Brooks now lives in West Lafayette and is serving as a service missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He describes his mission simply but powerfully:
“I strive to serve as the Savior served.”
Serving with Joy and Purpose
Elder Brooks joined the LUM Protein Food Pantry nearly a year ago and has become a dependable, cheerful presence. He values “the simplicity of serving” and the sense of community among volunteers.
“It’s always so much fun to work with them and serve the clients. The volunteers are amazing—very welcoming—and I feel the Holy Spirit when I serve.”
His reliability, professionalism, and genuine compassion for our shoppers make a real difference. The way Elder Brooks supports the LUM shoppers — with respect and kindness — strengthens the LUM mission and leaves a lasting impact on the community. His positive attitude is contagious, inspiring other volunteers and creating an environment where everyone feels supported, valued, and motivated.

Background and Inspiration
Elder Brooks attended Connections Academy for online schooling and completed his junior and senior years at the Greater Lafayette Career Academy, where he studied construction trades and worked for Gaylor Electric.
Outside of volunteering, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing board games, writing stories, watching movies, and collecting Batman memorabilia. He shares his gratitude for both his faith and family:
“I owe it to my Savior to be here and serve at this time. I do small and simple things, and the Lord magnifies them.”
LUM thanks Elder Brooks for his time, heart, and joyful service. Join us in congratulating him on this well-deserved honor.
