LUM Cooling Station Provides Vital Refuge During Heatwave
Standing with the Unhoused During the Heatwave
As temperatures soared during the recent heatwave, the LUM Cooling Station—located at the LUM Office—served as a critical refuge for individuals needing a break from the heat. Open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. whenever the “feels like” temperature reaches 100°F, the LUM Cooling Station offers more than just a break from the heat.
Guests have access to cold water, hygiene supplies, new socks, and bathroom facilities—basic comforts that promote health, dignity, and relief. Beyond meeting physical needs, the LUM Cooling Station fosters an atmosphere of respect and community. It provides a safe, welcoming space where guests feel seen, valued, and supported. They find renewed hope. LUM invites you to be part of this life-saving effort.
You can be part of this story. Support the LUM Cooling Station by volunteering your time or making a donation to LUM Homeless Services. Together, we can turn up the compassion while turning down the temperature.
