Excitement & Generosity Boost LUM Summer
New Endowment Ensures a Bright Future
Betty and Dick Nelson, along with Eileen Steele, brought some excitement to the LUM 5th Quarter Summer Learning Program with a recent visit with the students. Dick Nelson’s animated reading of The Rain Came Down by David Shannon had the kindergarten & 1st grade students entertained and engaged.
This special occasion coincides with some incredible news: Last year, the Community Foundation of Greater Lafayette, inspired by the Nelsons’ pledge to match donations up to $100,000, helped raise an astonishing $200,000 for the LUM 5th Quarter Summer Learning Program. This initiative led to five new endowments from generous donors including the Nelsons, Dennis & Jeanne Gernhardt, Jim Leslie in honor of Diana Sue Leslie, Dennis & Sharon Schlott, and Anne & Kumares Sinha.
Aimed at bridging the academic gap and offering enriching activities for local children from pre-kindergarten to 6th grade, the LUM 5th Quarter Summer Learning Program is now poised for even greater success. LUM executive director Wes Tillett celebrated the visionary generosity of the Nelsons, calling it a huge boost for students, families, and staff, ensuring a bright and thriving future for everyone involved. If you wish to invest in this or a similar endowment, please email Wes at lum@LUMserve.org. For more PHOTOS of their visit, click HERE.
