LUM Opportunities Galore – Camp, Pantry, Shelter

Hey, want to make this summer count? Joining the LUM Summer of Service means you get to make a real difference in your community, tackling immediate needs and seeing the impact of your efforts firsthand.
So, what are you waiting for? Find your match and convince a friend or two to join you. LUM has endless opportunities — whether it’s helping out at the shelter, providing meals, assisting with food pantries, pitching in at the child care program, or being a counselor at LUM Camp. Plus, consider joining our Food Rescue Initiative or providing To-Go Meals. For more details, click the button or see below.
Shelter — Volunteers
Needed each evening from 8 p.m. – 7 a.m. -or- 8 p.m. – midnight. Check-in guests, serve meals and distribute bedding & shower items. Training is provided.
Shelter — Provide Meals
A simple meal for 48 shelter guests is needed each evening at 8 p.m. Planning and preparing a meal is a great activity for groups. You may stay and serve the meal or drop it off in advance.
Food Pantry
Volunteers are needed Monday afternoons (Noon to 4 p.m.) & Thursday mornings (9 a.m. – noon) in downtown Lafayette. Check-in clients, enter data, pick up food, assist clients in shopping & organize the pantry.
Child Care — Aides
Needed each weekday from 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. Help children with math, reading, arts & crafts and recreation; prepare and serve snack and lunch, and supervise study trips. Training provided.
LUM Camp — Counselors
Needed five days (11 a.m. on Monday, July 22 to 4 p.m. on Friday, July 26). With two other staff, oversee a group of ten children during a four-day, overnight camp. Support each child with structured activities. Training is provided.
Food Rescue Initiative
Needed weekday mornings & evening and Saturdays. Pick up surplus food at local bakeries & coffeeshops and delivery them to LUM. Also, LUM is looking for an individual to coordinate the program.
