Meet Cristy – New LUM Staff Member
Cristy Perez, LUM Assistant Director – Immigration Clinic
Cristy L. Perez is the New assistant director of the LUM Immigration Clinic. She grew up in New York City and currently lives in Lafayette, IN, with her daughter (11 years old).
When reflecting on her excitement and pride in joining the LUM team, Cristy stated,
I love that LUM is a Christian ministry that has a strong foundation built on God’s saving love. It is a blessing and an honor to be able to show the unconditional love of God by helping others with grace and to be able to help people restore what poverty has taken away.
When asked if she has a personal mission statement, Cristy stated that,
My mission in life is to be obedient to the Lord and be that person that I needed when I needed assistance and guidance in life. I like to help others during their hard times with encouraging words, truth and a bit of comedic relief. A helping hand goes a long way.
Even as a young professional, Cristy volunteered and prepared meals for the local shelter. She shared that she draws inspiration from her daughter stating that,
She has a vibrant and humble personality. She has been resilient and shows kindness and compassion towards other people.
For more than 13 years, Cristy has been a social services professional in New York City. Most recently she was the coordinator at a nonprofit agency providing case management, food assistance, home healthcare, meals, and assistance with benefits, advocacy and entitlements in the vulnerable neighborhoods in the Bronx. Cristy is fluent in Spanish and English. In her free time, Cristy enjoys hanging out with her daughter, bowling, drawing, painting and exploring new restaurants. Her favorite Bible passage is,
Trust in the Lord with ALL your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.
