Remembering The Rev. Martin Luther King

LUM Participates in Local March for Dr. King

On Wednesday, April 4, 2018, the Tippecanoe County Public Library organized the MLK 50 March, a commemorative sidewalk march to remember the 50th anniversary of the death of The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. — and LUM was honored to have a small part in the program.

The sidewalk march began at the Hanna Center and ended at the Tippecanoe County Public Library. At the library individuals who remember this day shared their personal stories. At precisely 6:01 p.m., the time when Dr. King died, there was a solemn observance along with the tolling of the bells (50 times) at Central Presbyterian Church. The event was closed with a bit of poetry and socializing.

LUM staff members, board members, and After School Program students participated in the march and program. Shuttle buses were provided courtesy of Lafayette Urban Ministry before and after the program to assist participants with parking. To view more PHOTOS of the event, click HERE.
