For 13 years, Lafayette Urban Ministry has partnered with the IRS Volunteers in Tax Assistance (VITA) Program to bring free, quality, tax return preparation services to hundreds of low-income wage earners in our community. This year, more than 750 joint and individual state and federal tax returns were prepared — with more than $1.3 million in tax refunds and tax credits returned to local low-income households, which undoubtedly will be funneled back into our local economy.
Close to 40 LUM volunteers received IRS certification to prepare tax returns. It’s a big commitment of time and effort, but the intrinsic rewards for the LUM volunteers are big too. The LUM Tax Assistance Program is led by Sandra Dunn-El. For more information on the LUM Income Tax Assistance Program, click HERE.
