Marketplace 2019 will be announced in the Fall.  Below are last year’s Marketplace experiences to give you an idea of how unique & exciting they will be again this year.

2018 Marketplace Items

Bill and Gail Gettings welcome you to their home for a Rustic Italian Dinner. This four-course meal, complete with antipasti plates, homemade ravioli with basil pesto sauce, soul warming soup, focaccia bread, and roasted pork and vegetables, is thoughtfully paired with wine and spirits to tempt all your senses. Cap the evening off with homemade pastries, fresh fruits, coffee and a digestive. Bill and Gail will share their love of cooking and entertaining, as they invite you to join them in the preparation and presentation of this gourmet treat in a lovely rural setting.

County Commissioner Tom Murtaugh will give a private, behind the scenes tour of the historic Tippecanoe County Courthouse. Enjoy a unique perspective of this local icon, including a rare glimpse of the restored clock tower and have the opportunity to see the unrivaled view of downtown Lafayette and holiday lights from the top of the dome! You will then cross the river to Scotty’s Brewhouse to enjoy a meal and drinks, while reflecting on favorite highlights of the tour.

When you take your first bite of one of Sarah Rawlings pies, you’ll remember where, when and what flavor it was! Her pies are that good. Whether filled with silky cream fillings or juicy ripe fruits, her tender, flaky crusts are what dreams are made of. Join Sarah as she shares her baking secrets and you learn hands on how to make a perfect crust and a delicious filling. You will get to go home with a pie and an extra crust or two to try your hand at home.

April showers will bring abundant May wildflowers for you to view on your personal guided tour of the Clegg Garden, conducted by Gus Nyberg, NICHES Executive Director. On a hillside overlooking Wildcat Creek, the garden offers beautiful vistas and meandering paths to view native flora and fauna. Following the garden tour, cocktails and hors d’oeuvres and a sumptuous dinner, offering the freshest market finds, will be served in the Clegg Cottage.

Smittybread is a handcrafted artisanal bakery here in Lafayette, using high quality ingredients, time-honored baking techniques, and natural leavening agents that bring out the best in breads. Smittybread is also the story of a faded print journalist’s pursuit of meaning, happiness and income outside the newsroom. Stop the press! Start the oven! Join David Smith at the bakers bench and learn the twists and turns of pretzel making.

Join Scott Frankenberger in his potter studio for an afternoon of drink, nibbles and demonstration of his craft. Scott has been spinning his magic at the potter’s wheel since 1974, developing a trail of collectors spanning the globe. You will have the chance to see past and current work, learn about his techniques, and try your own hand at decorating an individual plate. Your decorated piece will subsequently be fired at a later date and returned to you. Don’t miss this chance to have your own personalized ‘Frankenberger.’

Enjoy a wonderful evening great food, drinks and conversation in a trio of Historic Highland Park residences. The fun will begin with cocktails, appetizers and laughter at the Hainje home. You will then proceed across the street to enjoy a sumptuous dinner accompanied by warm conversation at the Gunderson’s residence. The evening will wind down with dessert and drinks as you move next door to the Carr/Stevens home. No matter the weather outside, the evening will be warm with old friends and new acquaintances.

This is home to Marsha Provo and her wife, Sandi Smith. They spend their days there, dreaming and creating. Featured in magazines, this home’s colorful and unusual interior has delighted and inspired many. There are stories to be told of the hundreds of interesting things inside…we know you’ll find it to be one of the more interesting and unusual addresses in our city. Lunch will be served and you will leave with an artistic creation of your own and perhaps an idea or two.

Local restauranteur and farmer Kirstin Serrano has long been at the forefront of the local farm to table movement. Founder of Small Wonder Foods, Kirstin focuses on making healthy food choices delicious, satisfying and nurturing. Leave the cold winters eve at the door and learn several wintery salads and dressings that will warm your body and soul. Naturally, dinner will be served (salads, but of course!).

Sarah McGregor-Ray has had a passion for baking since she was a child and continues to share this love through the Sweet Revolution Bake Shop. A Culinary School graduate and professional pastry chef, Sarah will welcome you to her kitchen for a class in the art of French macarons. Don’t worry, there will be ample opportunity to savor these sweet treats and there will be plenty of what you make to take home!
