Oppose the Criminalization of Homelessness
Criminalization of homelessness legislation is back in 2026. Senate Bill 285 (“Housing Matters”) would force law enforcement to ticket, fine, or jail Hoosiers simply for having nowhere to sleep by creating a new Class C misdemeanor. This approach has failed elsewhere and would undermine local partnerships, increase public costs, and make it harder for people to access services and employment.
Call or write your Senator today and urge them to
VOTE NO on SB 285
as long as the Class C misdemeanor remains.
