LUM Cooling Station Offers Cool Heat Relief

Standing with the Unhoused During the Heatwave

During the recent heatwave, the LUM Cooling Station transformed the LUM Office into a life-saving refuge for members of our unhoused community. Open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. whenever the feels-like temperature hits 100°F or higher, the LUM Cooling Station offers more than just a break from the scorching heat.

Yes, there is air conditioning—but there is also clean drinking water, hygiene items, brand-new socks, and access to restrooms. Each of these simple yet essential comforts help meet urgent needs in a time of extreme weather. But perhaps the most powerful thing offered is something you won’t find on a supply list: hospitality. The LUM Cooling Station fosters a sense of belongingdignity, and care. It has become a space where people feel seen, supported, and safe—a true community oasis in the middle of a difficult season.

You can be part of this story. Support the LUM Cooling Station by volunteering your time or making a donation to LUM Homeless Services. Together, we can turn up the compassion while turning down the temperature.
