Meet the LUM Shelter Coordinator

skinnerMeet Jasmine Skinner, the new volunteer Live-in Coordinator at the LUM Emergency Shelter. Jasmine is originally from Frankfort, Indiana and currently lives in West Lafayette. She is a student at Purdue University (West Lafayette) in the Colleges of Liberal Arts and Agriculture. Jasmine is double-majoring in Medieval & Renaissance Studies and US History with a minor in Entomology. She hopes to complete her PhD in History and become a professor for the Department of Defense — like her dad.

Jasmine was originally drawn to the work at the shelter because the hours fit her rigorous academic schedule. She also was looking for direct experience working with the homeless population because of her personal experiences with family financial struggles.

In her time with LUM, Jasmine has learned a great deal. She enjoys engaging with the shelter guests which reaffirms for her that they are all good people who need some emergency assistance. Her greatest joy is to see individuals “leave” the shelter for a home of their own.
