LUM Staff Retreat Sparks Connection
Storytelling, Juggling, and Team Growth
LUM staff members recently gathered for a retreat focused on connection, growth, and team building. The day began with breakfast and social time, followed by an engaging session on intercultural communication led by Jos N. Holman, County Librarian for the Tippecanoe County Public Library (pictured).
Jos kicked off the program with juggling, immediately capturing everyone’s attention and setting a fun, energetic tone. He then used his storytelling and interactive style to guide staff in reflecting on high-context and low-context communication, implicit bias, and communicating more effectively across cultures.
His session was both entertaining and insightful, reinforcing the importance of respect and empathy in serving a diverse community.
In the afternoon, the team headed to the bowling alley for bowling and team-building fun that encouraged collaboration, laughter, and camaraderie (pictured).
Staff left the retreat energized, more connected, and better equipped to work together across cultures, strengthening LUM’s ability to serve neighbors with dignity and compassion.
