LUM Volunteer of the Month – Gabe Montgomery

Lafayette Urban Ministry is honored to recognize Gabriel “Gabe” Montgomery as the LUM Volunteer of the Month for June 2025, in appreciation of his outstanding service, spiritual leadership, and commitment to the LUM mission. Gabe serves on the LUM Board of Directors as the representative for Broken Chains Biker Ministries and has been a dedicated volunteer for the past 18 months. He plays an active role at the LUM Emergency Shelter—not only volunteering overnight and leading weekly Bible studies, but also coordinating monthly meals that go far beyond expectations. When asked what drives his service, Gabe shared,

I love getting to share Jesus’s love with everyone. It’s about spreading love and being the reason someone has hope.” His volunteerism is a reflection of his deep personal faith and his desire to bring hope to others.

Each month, Gabe and the team from Broken Chains Biker Ministries bring more than just food—they bring warmth, fellowship, and dignity. With outdoor grilling equipment in tow, they treat our shelter guests to an old-fashioned cookout, serving up hot meals fresh off the grill. This thoughtful gesture transforms a routine meal into a meaningful experience, offering comfort and a sense of normalcy to those facing hardship. For many of our guests, this kind of meal is both rare and deeply appreciated.

Originally from Frankfort, Indiana, Gabe now lives in Lafayette with his wife, Haleigh, and their five children: Luna and Declan (11), Kayden (8), Oakley (2), and Scarlett (5 months). Their family also includes two dogs, Chloe and Hardy.

Despite the demands of a busy household, Gabe prioritizes service to others.

Serve the Lord and spend time with my family,” he says. “All glory be to God!

Gabe’s joyful spirit, consistent presence, and faith-centered approach have made a lasting impact at LUM. He is a role model of servant leadership and a beacon of hope to our guests and staff alike.

Gabe encourages others to volunteer, highlighting the profound experiences and lessons gained at LUM.
