LUM Volunteer of the Month – Rachel Labi
LUM Volunteer of the Month – October 2024
LUM proudly recognizes Rachel Labi as the October 2024 Volunteer of the Month. For two years, Rachel has played a key role at LUM, serving as a member of the Board of Directors and Spanish translator for the Immigration Clinic. With her church, Greater Lafayette Chinese Alliance Church, she engages others to regularly participate in LUM Deep Cleaning Service Days at the Emergency Shelter.
“The message is beautiful. It’s not simply about eliminating poverty but restoring dignity. This community pillar has positively affected thousands of lives across Indiana, and I want to be a part of this critical mission.”
Reflecting on her involvement with LUM, Rachel stated, She encourages others to volunteer, sharing that,
“Even small efforts, like packaging meals, can ripple outward to improve community wellbeing and support children facing food insecurity. Every bit of time given makes a difference.”
Rachel grew up and lives in West Lafayette and graduated from West Lafayette High School. A finance student at Purdue University and member of the Dr. Cornell A. Bell Business Opportunity Program, she balances academics with community service and advocacy. Her passion for service began early. At 12, Rachel started anti-trafficking advocacy focused on labor trafficking and now supports global anti-slavery efforts through the Fair Labor Association Student Committee and AnnieCannons. She also co-founded Building Financial Freedom, a financial education initiative with global impact. When she’s not volunteering, Rachel enjoys writing, traveling, watching documentaries, and learning. She credits the support of her parents and two sisters for her drive to serve others and make a positive impact.
Rachel’s dedication to LUM reflects the spirit of volunteerism that sustains the organization and enhances the lives of countless individuals across the Greater Lafayette area. LUM is grateful for Rachel’s dedication and leadership. Her story shows how small actions can lead to meaningful change.
