LUM Volunteer of the Month – Ke’sean Oliver
July Volunteer of the Month – LUM Camp
Ke’sean J. Oliver is the LUM Volunteer of the Month for July. Ke’sean is from Lafayette, IN, and will be a senior this year at McCutcheon High School. Ke’sean is being honored for his work as a volunteer counselor with LUM Camp. He was selected for this honor for his good nature, maturity, and his ability to work with children. Ke’sean stated that,
“I really enjoy being a part of LUM Camp. It is a great way for me to help children — and also gives me experience working on a leadership team.”
Ke’sean shared that he gets his confidence from being the oldest of six siblings. Many of the skills he has developed as the big brother, are what makes him an effective LUM Camp Counselor. He is especially good at role-modeling good behavior and mentoring the boy campers.
This will be the second year that Ke’sean has volunteered with the LUM Camp. As a LUM Camp counselor, he will report to the LUM Camp director, Marlena Edmondson and volunteer overnight for five days. After a training day on Monday (July 24), he will oversee a “cabin” of children (in his case, boys) aged 8 to 10 years old with two other counselors from Tuesday to Friday afternoon (July 25-28). Ke’sean will be responsible for assuring that the campers are safe, engaged in camp activities, and having the time of their lives.
Ke’sean says volunteering at LUM is a great way to be involved in the community, help children and become a better person. He encourages other local high school students to do the same — especially his fellow Mavericks. In his free time, Ke’sean enjoys hanging out with is family, playing games and swimming. In the fall, he plans on being a member of the McCutcheon football team.
Join us in congratulating Ke’sean J. Oliver for being selected the LUM Volunteer of the Month for July. If you would like to volunteer with LUM, check out the LUM website or call or email the LUM volunteer coordinator, Terri Anderson (volunteer@LUMserve.org | 765-423-2691).
