LUM Social Justice – 40th Anniversary Party
Celebrating 40 Years of Advocating for Families
Last week at an informal party with cake and other refreshments, LUM friends, board & staff members celebrated the 40th Anniversary of the LUM Social Justice Ministry.
Everyone in attendance was grateful for the impact that LUM has had not only with direct service but also with social justice. Social justice has been at the core of the work at LUM for over 50 years, but 40 years ago LUM hired a social justice director and the program became more formal and intentional.
The highlights of the evening were as follows:
- the remarks offered by Joe Micon, LUM executive director emeritus, first LUM social justice director, and retired Indiana state representative (pictured);
- the awarding of the LUM Volunteer of the Month to Patti O’Callaghan for her work with LUM social justice, food aid, assistance, and legislative advocacy;
- the appearance of Jud Dolphin from Washington DC via Zoom, and
- the introduction of the LUM Social Justice Team – Pictured L to R: Deacon Jim Rush (St. Lawrence), Tim Bobillo (St. Mary Cathedral), Patti O’Callaghan (Chapel of the Good Shepherd), Kathryn Williams (LUM Legislative Advocate), and Wes Tillett; plus Deb Parent (St. Thomas Aquinas), not pictured.
The event was a tribute to the successes and a call to action for the future of the LUM Social Justice Ministry.
A strong, public voice for Indiana families and children in need
