LUM Volunteer of the Month – Jessica Day

Lafayette Urban Ministry is proud to recognize Jessica Day as our Volunteer of the Month for March 2025. Jessica has contributed nearly four years of service to LUM, assisting as an afternoon receptionist and Tax Assistance volunteer, providing a warm welcome and critical support to those in need.

Originally from Naperville, IL, Jessica is a Purdue University alumna, holding degrees in Civil Engineering and Agronomy. Her journey with LUM began years ago with Jubilee Christmas, an experience that left a lasting impression. She was particularly drawn to LUM’s philosophy of ensuring that no client is ever turned away empty-handed—whether receiving direct services or referrals to additional resources.

Jessica’s passion for volunteering grew over time, and she embraced her role as a receptionist, where she provides frontline service and support to clients navigating LUM services.

I appreciate that LUM does not center itself in acts of charity but rather focuses on removing barriers that prevent individuals from moving forward,” she reflects. “As with the parents in Jubilee Christmas, I’ve seen firsthand how LUM helps people by giving them the support they need to become more independent. It’s really rewarding to help connect clients with resources that restore their dignity and give them hope for the future.

Jessica and her husband, Jerrod, recently returned to Lafayette after living in Wisconsin. While Jerrod navigates the demands of his career, Jessica devotes her time to managing their household and actively contributing to the community through volunteer service at LUM.

LUM is an organization you can sink your teeth into—there’s a role for everyone, whether it’s a one-time event or ongoing service.

Beyond her volunteer work, Jessica enjoys knitting, sewing, and playing the flute. She is an active member of the Lafayette Flute Choir and is excited to perform at the LUM We’ve Got Talent fundraising event on April 11.

Please join us in thanking Jessica for her commitment to LUM and the community. Her kindness, dedication, and willingness to help others embody the spirit of service that makes LUM thrive. Thank you, Jessica!
