Celebrating the Retirement of Connie Decker
Open House – A Heartfelt Farewell
LUM recently gathered to honor the retirement of Connie Decker, a beloved member of our team who has been an integral part of our organization since officially joining in the summer of 2016. Connie’s journey with LUM, however, began well before that—as a devoted volunteer for more than seven years, contributing her time and talents to a variety of programs, including serving as an afternoon receptionist and supporting Hunger Hike, Jubilee Christmas, bulk mailings, and the Tax Assistance Program.
The Retirement Open House was a warm and celebratory event, filled with heartfelt tributes from staff, volunteers, and community members who have had the pleasure of working alongside Connie. Many shared stories of how her kind voice and welcoming smile were often the first point of contact for clients, families, board members, and donors visiting or calling LUM. Her unwavering compassion and genuine care have made a lasting impact, uplifting all who had the opportunity to meet her.
Connie’s roots in Lafayette are deep, having grown up in the community where she still resides. Before her time at LUM, she retired from Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health, where she worked in the Food & Nutrition Services department. Additionally, Connie volunteered as a tutor and second-grade reading mentor with the Lafayette School Corporation, further demonstrating her commitment to serving others.
