Central Catholic Students Focus on Homelessness

LUM Presentation, Change Drive & Care Packages

As a part of Catholic Schools Week 2021, Briton Weise, LUM Emergency Shelter director, was invited to speak via Zoom to the students at Central Catholic Jr-Sr High School about homelessness and homeless services at LUM. Robert Storey, the director of campus ministry at Central Catholic, and the campus ministry staff coordinated two events benefitting the LUM Emergency Shelter.

The entire student body collected items and created “care packages” and also participated in a “change drive.” The care packages contain a variety of items including gloves, hats, scarves, socks, hand & toe warmers, and prayer cards. The change drive is on track to raise more than $1,000 for the shelter as well. The care packages are available to all of the shelter guests each night and LUM clients. They are also available on a “clothes line” hanging outside the LUM Office (pictured).

LUM is blessed to have such active Catholic schools in Lafayette with students and staff committed to supporting the good work of Lafayette Urban Ministry
